The conclusion of Vol. 2 of the Hater's Guide is important to me, and summarizes my frustration with what I see as a failure by media and analysts to realistically explain what LLMs actually do. Retail investors - regular people - will end up hurt as a result.

I get furious when I hear people say they didn't know he would do this stuff. Black people knew. Indigenous people knew. LGBTQ+ people knew. Latinos knew. Environmentalists knew. You didn't know because you didn't want to know and didn't want to listen to the ones who did know.

ICE has repeatedly lied about not detaining people in office buildings and other places like this across the country. 👇 Push your local municipalities to go after unlicensed ICE detention facilities. City & state govts have more resources than nonprofits do, they need to be doing the work too.
🚨 BREAKING: new video shows ICE is operating a detention facility on the 10th floor of 26 Federal Plaza, where people are being held for days or weeks at a time without showers, medication or a change of clothes, sleeping on the floor, and with minimal food and outside contact.

I'd be curious to see a poll of the public asking them when they thought internal combustion engine vehicle sales will start to decline.

I expect most have no idea it happened years ago. I expect this would be different if our media wasn't doing the work of preserving the status quo.
🌍 Internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle sales are in freefall—down nearly 30% since peaking at 86M in 2017, with just 59M sold in 2022 (BloombergNEF).

Meanwhile, EVs hit 20% of new car sales in Q4 2023. China’s at 50% EV market share as of July 2024! ⚡

New in PN: "On Los Angeles Street where it meets the 101 freeway, I didn’t see anyone attacking police, nor did I hear orders to disperse. Like all riots, the matter of who started it remains, at best, an open question. But the police at the very least escalated things." — @justinglawe.bsky.social

🚨 VEHICULAR ASSAULT in San Francisco 🚨

Just received a report from someone OTG: "Tesla asshole hit an old man. MD and EMT appeared outta nowhere and helped out. Paramedics arrived after 5 minutes. They caught the Tesla. Plenty of abrasions and bleeding and possibly broken leg (per EMT)"

BREAKING: A few minutes ago, a vehicle of three people was rammed by a truck belonging to federal immigration authorities in Boyle Heights, CA. According to security footage shown to me, they deployed chemical munitions & detained the driver at gunpoint. All are US citizens according to the wife.

If the @washingtonpost.com wanted to set its credibility on fire, this is what it would do.

ChatGPT cannibalized an actual reporter’s good work, turned it into a steaming pile of misinformation and then had the fucking nerve to slap the reporter’s name back on its bullshit.
When I took the history reporter job, I told my editor I would never "both sides" the Civil War, Confederates or slavery. I never did.

But here, ChatGPT (pic 1) has turned my work (pics 2,3) into whitewashed pablum and put MY FUCKING NAME on it.

I am livid, I am shaking. I don't know what to do.

There are many other tactics that are more appropriate right now.

On the less risky side, intentional incompetence in every day life to grind the gears of oppression to a halt buys us time.

On the more risky side, I'm inspired by the Citizen's Commision to Investigate the FBI. 😉

I woke up yesterday to learn that PBS had scrubbed my work, the PBS Independent Lens Map of Gender Diverse Cultures, from their website, without warning.

These folks are throwing us under the bus so fast, they're gonna throw out their backs doing it.
