Sorry, paywall, can't really comment (though I'd really like to!)

Never been to Victoria but that was my perception of Vancouver and Seattle. "British damp" nails it.

Agreed, they unvoluntarily failed to eff up the Ouigo app 😁
December 5, 2025 at 8:32 AM
Nope, not worth it IMO. No semi-flex tickets, options are a PITA, no wifi. I only use Ouigo as my personal Operator of last resort.

It's a million times better because it barely handles any trains. It's easy to make a good app for such a limited use case.

I'll be the first one to hate SNCF Connect, it tries to do waaaay too many things, esp both IC and public transit and mass transit in IdF. But Ouigo has it muuuuch easier.

BR had its Research Division. I remember them from (probably) a Railnatter episode pertaining to solid-state interlocking back in the 80's. It too was privatized...

"yeah but this is the parking lot *for* the store. If I change stores, I'll drive to another parking lot"

it's double standards all the way, smh

This! Sadly… this…

Talking points for a follow up video:
- much faster travel times for each pax (pretty obv already but better say it out loud)
- move 2~3x more people with the same fleet size
- carry the same number of people with ⅓~½ as many trains
(travel) time is money, literally! ⚡ pays for itself!

- droits des passagers inexistants si billet combiné avec inOui/Intercité/Eurostar
- pas d'Interrail

Agen-Auch should be modernized. It has at least 3 spurs to ag silos. Sure each silo gets like 5 trains/year, but they're massive 2500t grain units. I'm pretty sure a working line could attract other ag customers and pax traffic.
But the line is split between NA and Occitanie... it's hopeless.

Renault Safrane (already 15 yo when I got it from my parents, it was worth less than scrap value)
ditched it in 2018, been car-free since
I rent cars all the time instead. Not cheap by any means, but the peace of mind alone is worth every penny.

We (Paris) don't know how to do "well-built" tram lines. All the lines in and around Paris have poor to abysmal average speeds (only T2 has decent speeds on its original RR alignment).
I'd rather make 95% of the metro accessible instead. Leaving out a dozen stations seems acceptable to me.

the infamous "terrier de Bercy" is hard requirement for any expansion of services terminating at Bercy. There have been countless studies on it, we know what to build and what gains we can expect.
No one wants to pay for it, also because no agency/operator wants its trains there…
November 27, 2025 at 3:43 PM
Just this morning, trains were cancelled due to a late possession on platforms. "train annulé en raison de manque de voies à quai". Ask me how I know 🤬

the 9.37 was merged into the 10.37, the 11.37 was cancelled outright... massive mess. So I guess this is going to be a recurring issue...
November 27, 2025 at 12:34 PM
if one puts a pacer/Schienenbus on such a rail-trailer…

Black Friday (sic) here in France too. 99.99% of the population doesn't even know it's related to US Thanksgiving. Heck, 99% of the population probably doesn't even know anything about Thanksgiving either.

It's just an Amazon sales thing.

Dare I say Strasbourg was first to the interlining table in 🇫🇷.

But Montpellier definitely played its cards right with a purposefully twisted Line 1 before it was untangled a few years later. That was a masterclass in forward thinking.

The fares are *very* different on each type of card, it's actually insane.
November 20, 2025 at 10:36 AM
Up until the recent fare shakeup, Paris region had an anonymous Navigo Découverte card that was anonymous and cost something like 5€. The regular card was free, but you had to sign up and give a picture.
Nowadays, the anonymous card is the Navigo Easy which costs 2€, that's the default card at TVMs.

and we have no idea if this is financially (among other things) sustainable, let alone profitable
November 18, 2025 at 2:04 PM
Maybe plans for the yellow line too? convert this stub of a line to a REM de Longueuil?
November 18, 2025 at 9:30 AM
I stand corrected. Thanks for the info.
