I figured out writing my own statusline for Neovim!

I'd been using lualine, but I didn't like that to configure anything I have to explicitly specify everything, while at the same time I'm just learning an abstraction of the actual API. I figure the more I […]

I coded my own external in C for Max/MSP!

You can load a file (either in the object box, or w/ a "read" message) and convert the binary data to a control signal for phase-shift keying (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase-shift_keying) telecommunication noises. […]

I hate Ring(/etc.) doorbells so much. It makes me feel deeply depressed that I have no ability to make my own choices to avoid them — if people around me want Ring doorbells, I'm going to be recorded by Ring doorbells

It's deeply depressing and tiring watching podcasts go from an open format for audio over RSS to videos on YouTube/video clips on Instagram/TikTok/etc.

Makes me think about Google's discontinuation of Google Reader and its role in killing off blogs.

“But the most successful podcasts these days […]

I'm looking into the Zig programming language, and I found this on the language designer's blog. I always appreciate seeing other people being as cranky as I am about rent-seeking and the aggressive push for LLM coding:

“In this case it's even more suspicious because the company that bills you […]

I started out my Neovim setup with Kickstart, and I finally got everything broken out into individual modules! https://github.com/reillypascal/nvim/

The init.lua file for Kickstart is over 1000 lines, which is a bit intimidating to maintain, so figuring this out was very nice. Now it's less […]

Weird Rust/Neovim issue I just figured out

In short: if you're using Rust plugins (I have rust-lang/rust.vim and mrcjkb/rustaceanvim) you *don't* need to explicitly install the rust-analyzer LSP in Mason

When I tried to run vim.lsp.inlay_hint.enable() to get type hints, I would regularly get […]
