I figured out writing my own statusline for Neovim!

I'd been using lualine, but I didn't like that to configure anything I have to explicitly specify everything, while at the same time I'm just learning an abstraction of the actual API. I figure the more I […]

I coded my own external in C for Max/MSP!

You can load a file (either in the object box, or w/ a "read" message) and convert the binary data to a control signal for phase-shift keying (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase-shift_keying) telecommunication noises. […]

Does anyone know how to turn off/reduce the transparency in Android 16?

I can't seem to find anything online, and I didn't see anything in the UI or accessibility settings, but I want to check before I conclude that it's impossible

GrapheneOS' latest update […]

I'm teaching Sonic Pi in a music tech class, and because we were using the TB-303 synth in class, I felt compelled to modify what we did to make the Charli XCX “365” bassline:

Since I've been enjoying photographing clouds, my partner got me a book on cloudspotting/cloud types. It was very sweet and I appreciated it.

I've been getting into film photography, and here are some photos from the first roll I took. I'm finding I like clouds, especially with the sun shining through them in interesting ways

These were taken at the Cobbs Hill Park reservoir in Rochester

I've been getting into photography lately after I found my old film camera (Minolta X-370), and my partner found their old digital camera. Even though my phone's camera is nicer than the digital one, it's been nice to use both of them and not have to bring my […]

Would people recommend using Rohrer & Klingner iron gall ink in a nice pen w/ gold nib (Pilot Custom 823)?

I've been really enjoying this R&K “Ebony” ink, and it would be nice to use it in my favorite pen. I hear R&K iron gall inks are pretty gentle and gold […]

My camera has an “AE lock” (upper left label in diagram) and I immediately thought “Autechre lock”

My mom was visiting for my wedding and brought my old SLR camera — I've been wanting to try out photography, so this should be fun!

It's a Minolta X-370. I don't know anything about photography (I don't think I actually used this more than once or twice), so if […]

Went for a hike with my spouse, brother/sister-in-law, and mom, and saw some nice moss (and a moss-covered fungus)

I'm reading ”S.” by Doug Dorst and so far it's very interesting.

It's framed as an old library book called “Ship of Theseus” by enigmatic (fictional) author V.M. Straka, and two students have written notes in the margin discussing the book and their lives.

The […]

I found a nice way to get offline documentation in Neovim!

https://devdocs.io/ is already a nice resource, and https://github.com/maskudo/devdocs.nvim lets you install and access those documents as local .md files.

I'd had issues with this vacuum-filler pen for the longest time, and the answer turned out to be “you're using it wrong” 😆

My mom gave me this pen (Nahvalur Original Plus in Lovina Graphite) as a present, and it would write well for a very short period after […]

[unicode font support survey - please boost!!]

@palomakop here's what I see. I'm on macOS 15.7, Firefox 143.0.1, and I'm using the default web interface for Mastodon v4.4.3.

My partner's mom gave me a lovely leather pen case for my birthday!

It's especially great because I was just thinking how I need something like this after almost knocking a pen on the floor.

My mom gave me this nice fountain pen ink for my birthday and it writes very nicely!

I figured out how to get some custom shortcuts in my startup screen on Neovim, and how to do my own ASCII header (my dotfiles: https://github.com/reillypascal/kickstart.nvim)

"u" runs Lazy.nvim updates, "n" runs :enew, "r" runs Oil, and "s" runs Telescope. This is using dashboard-nvim.

Not to be an Annoying Vim Person™ but Neovim makes me very happy

I started using it because I didn't like Microsoft making it harder to use official plugins in forks and couldn't find another GUI editor I liked much better

Between the custom color scheme I was […]

I'm getting back into SuperCollider (and running it from Neovim!)

This is taking an MP3 I glitched up in Python (as discussed here: https://reillyspitzfaden.com/posts/2025/04/databending-part-3/) and looping random segments of it like a skipping CD […]

The recording studio at the school where I teach is coming together! They're been having me pick out gear and consult on setup for this, and before this semester, we were waiting for the facilities people to install the paneling.

It's nice to have that finishing up.

I'm looking for Markdown display help for Neovim.

I have text wrapping at whitespace rather than in the middle of words, but the link underlines still extend to the edge.

I have `vim.opt.linebreak = true` in ftplugins/markdown.lua, and that's all I'm doing to […]
