I know everyone is super concerned about ‘inciting terrorism,’ so why exactly is it okay for a Toronto Sun columnist to essentially say that violence is an appropriate response to anti-genocide protesters?

I don't envy our American counterparts at present, but this is an opportune moment for Canadian journalism to reflect on how we cover politics and democracy and how we can do it better.

Not surprised. When he specifically mentioned her and others on the daily show, I assumed this was coming.

Carney's speech could be a bit more succinct with better flow, but he seems to have the tools to improve.

Also, with the analogies, it seems his team is trying to do better with men than the current PM.

Read through the list hoping it wouldn't be as disappointing as promised. It was clear Erica's point was valid. All of these supposed progressives telling her the appropriate way to disagree validates critiques that progressives are paternalistic and see racialized people as tools. FOH with that.
Please note this is a starter pack of WHITE reporters in Canada. And they are all mainstream.
Imagine coming into a progressive app and having no marginalized or progressive journalists in your starter pack
I know we're not really doing starterpacks anymore...

This is a set of (mostly) Canadian journalists new to bluesky. I also threw in a few of my faves.

Most on this list need help finding their footing here.

Agree on the points of feasibility and timing, but discounting this as a dumb idea in general might be a misread.
Imagine looking around the world today and deciding THIS is the fucking issue you're gonna launch your leadership campaign with. Absolutely disqualifyingly dumb. (Not to mention not at all feasible).

He's said this many times... I think in @aaronwherry.bsky.social's book and in conversation on Erkine- Smith's podcast.
Interesting to hear the PM name electoral reform (or lack thereof) as his biggest regret. I’m sure there’ll be some eye-rolling at his spin that it was impossible, but whatever the reason, it does stand out as a real missed opportunity in the current political climate.

The grotesque symmetry in January 6th being the day of an attempted right-wing fascist coup and the day of resignation for one of the most progressive leaders on the world stage.

I would add extension of parental leave and better take up of benefits like GIS, CWB and (finally) Canada Learning Bond.
Justin Trudeau’s legacy is a solid one.

Consequential but controversial. But a solid one.

— CPP bigger
— CCB ⬇️ child poverty
— TMX ✅ and LNG Canada supported
— One of best COVID responses in G7
— CUSMA
— Key investments in AI + ZEVs

And much of that will endure.

Whatever happens to Trudeau, I wonder what things will look like for Freeland long term. Regardless of how justified she was, her actions are also clearly a power play. Will party supporters appreciate this with more time to reflect?

So my first Bluesky post:

Perhaps the bright side of this week's dire circumstances is that the new voices in Cabinet give more credibility to voices who haven't been of the centre of power. Maybe some needed new perspectives.
