Republican Senators recklessly voted to overturn states' life-saving zero-emissions cars standards.

But states still hold their authority under the Clean Air Act to pass more protective tailpipe standards – and they should move quickly to shape new standards after today’s vote.
BREAKING: Republican Senators just broke the Senate's rules in an unlawful maneuver to overturn states' zero-emissions cars standards – a major overreach on states' rights to clean their air.

Make no mistake about it – they've only gained a temporary setback in the clean energy transition.

In California, AB 914 clarifies that ISRs may be adopted statewide, not only at the local air district level, and provides that CARB has authority to regulate indirect source emissions caused by stationary sources through the adoption of ISRs, but would not directly adopt any ISRs itself.
