Victory for Clean Air & Climate! 💙

CARB just approved stronger rules to crack down on methane leaks at CA landfills — a big win for public health & climate. Thanks to @airresources.bsky.social & our allies!

“I think that there is some sympathy amongst our organizations for those concerns, but if you look at the language, it still very much frames health-protective rulemaking as a problem rather than pollution.” -Chris Chavez, CCA Deputy Policy Director

The 5-minute averages of volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions peaked at 541.53 parts per billion at 11 p.m. at a monitoring location on the east border of the facility. Black carbon readings were slightly elevated, but local PM2.5 low-cost sensor readings didn't show much, if any, impact.

Several years ago @southcoastaqmd.bsky.social adopted a regulation (Rule 1180) that requires the refinery to monitor air quality at their fence line and post data on a website. You can see the data at elsegundo1180.com. 🧵
