Good job Vietnam! Maybe you can inspire the US...
**Vietnam is making bold moves in renewable energy!**

🇻🇳⚡ The country has raised its solar target to 73GW and wind to 38GW by 2030, up from 12.8GW and 21GW. A major step toward sustainability and energy security! 🌍🔋 #

I think @joshtpm.bsky.social has written the best account of why universities have to stand up to Trump. If you've been given great privilege, the implicit bargain is that when the chips are down you'll behave with honor and courage

For perspective, phone and laptop batteries have ~300-500 cycles before they drop to 80%. EV cars ~1500-2000. These 10,000 cycles before dropping even 1% (to 99%). Battery tech keeps getting better (if we invest in science).

Smarter planning
A former French military base, Vauban is a thriving neighbourhood of 5,500 residents connected to Freiburg town centre by bus and light rail. Built in the late 1990s as a radical experiment in low-car living, it forgoes virtually all on-street parking in favour of active, green, and social spaces. 🧵

Battery production in China: expect consolidation from the 100 or so companies now manufacturing them. But don't expect China to lose its dominance in the industry. Price advantage is 20% vs US and 30% vs Europe, per IEA. www.iea.org/commentaries...

This is amazing.
Next time someone tells you that the energy transition cannot be done remember:

In 2012 almost 40% of UK electricity was coal.

Since 1 October 2024 it is zero.

This is the moment Britains last coal power plant shut down on 30 September - the end of 142 years of coal.

Yes please
GOOD NEWS FRIDAY: Nearly half of EU city buses sold in 2024 were fully electric!

EU policies + city-level action drive faster shift away from diesel. At this pace, all new city buses could be zero-emission by 2027.

The question is where are the companies? We know that tech, AI/ML, pharma, biotech, semiconductors, energy… huge parts of the US economy in 2025 depend on STEM development and training.

Even farming - I've heard a lot about ML developments for farmers .. from an NSF-sponsored center 🧪

The US is so far behind China.
This is the Beijing-Shanghai corridor, which takes 4 hours and 18 minutes to cover 800 miles. That’s the same distance as NYC to Chicago, which currently takes 20 hours by train.

I *love* how back contact solar panels look, and as patents expire in 2028, they might become the dominant solar panel technology. Cool!
