Pediatric Resident. Aspiring to be a Peds Heme/Onc Fellow. I talk about healthcare, public policy, and bioethics.

Opinions my own. #MedSky #PedsSky
Please, indulge me by taking 2 minutes out of your day to check out my first OpEd as a physician and cancer survivor. Our most vulnerable children deserve a voice in vaccine policy.

Too often during a Grand Rounds lecture I am shown a graph that makes me question my own intelligence. It’s hard not to look around and ask everyone else if they have any idea what they are looking at.

One of my fellow residents was advised at her OBGYN office that she should not use aluminum-containing deodorant during pregnancy. What in the MAHA is that? 😭😭

Much like riboflavin is an essential vitamin, not a toxic food additive, autism is not an epidemic, because it’s not contagious, and the expansion of disease has not been sudden, nor geographically limited.
Speaking on Fox, Secy Kennedy said they are "launching requests for scientists" worldwide "to start to directly answer" cause of autism

"this is an epidemic like nothing we’ve ever seen before. It dwarves the COVID epidemic"

There are pediatric health experts who can answer that question for you.

But you know what DOES have a negative impact on the health of children? Gutting Medicaid.

54% of children in Louisiana rely on Medicaid to stay healthy. How about focusing on that if you care about the health of children.
Mike Johnson on RFK Jr pushing to remove fluoride from water: "From what I've read and what I understand, it deserves real evaluation. There's a concern that it may be having a negative impact on the health of children ... I don't have the answers."

Horrified to hear what's happening to our colleagues at HHS, NIH, and CDC today. Cruelty and chaos are the only principles of this administration.

Just learned that the entire division of blood disorders at the CDC was put on administrative leave or terminated effective immediately.

The people who figured out HIV was infecting people through the blood supply.

What could possibly go wrong?

I go to bed every night hoping RFK Jr is cartoonishly evil and that it’s truly all that simple. I’m far more fearful of a world where he’s solely a dumbass; a world where people with this little interest in knowledge can just stumble their way into one of the most influential positions in the world

I fear that placing unironic faith in establishment Dems like Hakeem Jeffries to exhibit any amount of political prowess is a sign of Stockholm Syndrome. We can’t keep fighting fires with squirt guns. Rule followers will always be at the mercy of those who act first and ask for forgiveness later.

I’m surprised by how often I’m doing practice questions sanctioned by national pediatric organizations where the “correct answer” is obviously wrong. Typically, these are in regard to ethical decision making or disclosure of information (or prescribing Cefdinir)

I owe half a million $$ in student loan debt but happy for those who do not have this same weight crushing them and can work on building toward a brighter financial future. Our generation needs it, badly.
The U.S. Education Department announced on Monday that it had canceled student loans for more than 150,000 borrowers, bringing the tally of Americans whose loans were forgiven under President Biden to over five million.
Biden’s Push to Cancel Student Debt Surpasses 5 Million Borrowers
With Monday’s authorization and 27 previous ones, the Biden administration has forgiven over $180 billion in student loans, even as its larger policy vision never took root.

The craziest thing is that these interventions actually save money.

Catching cancer early, preventing infectious disease and pregnancy are all so much more cost effective than their alternatives.

Not to mention BETTER FOR PATIENTS
The Supreme Court said Friday it will review the constitutionality of a provision of the Affordable Care Act that requires health plans to provide no-cost preventive care, including cancer screenings, immunizations and contraception, to millions of Americans.
