In Part 2 of my 'Casino Macroverse' series, I discuss how Gen Alpha is developing herd resistance against the casino economy through collaborative grinding.

Gen Z tried to beat the house by becoming dealers, Gen Alpha beat the system by routing around it!

That state where you look at current events and your mindset goes from apathy to rage and disgust. The Western hemisphere does not need it's version of the CFA Franc. Nothing, and I mean nothing has destroyed post colonial nations like it and somehow you can rationalize doing something similar.

'The Singing Neanderthal' is my favorite book of 2025 - Mithen's core idea is that ancient humans came up with the holistic "Hmmmm" communication system—Holistic, Multi-modal, Musical, Mimetic, Manipulative to survive. This book is a charming mixtape of anthropology, archaeology, and neuroscience.

I've been studying the casino economy for some time. Building upon @kyla.bsky.social @pkrugman.bsky.social and W.Eadington's 1999 work, I've noticed my Gen Alpha child and his friend's group building system resistance through collaborative grind strategies. Gen Alpha seems to building herd immunity.

By 2027, we'll know if system literacy creates resistance or just better gamblers

This is a really fun book. I've always enjoyed @kyla.bsky.social's takes and i love how she's basically gen-z'd economics (long overdue). I would like to say I wasted seven years of my life studying econ and I wish I had a book like this instead of being force-fed Milton Friedman (IKR).

For years I've been tracking the rise of authoritarianism – especially in former colonial powers that spent the 20th century branded as "developed democracies."This pattern felt deliberate. Less like a breakdown, more like a system revealing what it always was. (1/5)

This reminded me of Baudrillard’s Illusionary Balance - I committed to reading @ianschreiber.bsky.social this month out of supporting your friends and for someone as big of a mental laggard as myself it was a great read. I don’t know Brenda Romero but my circle raves about her - I can see why.

I am really glad to hear this - over the years the Oscars has made itself globally irrelevant and I haven't joined an oscar viewing party with my friends in years. I do, however watch YouTube on TV which gives me enough content and augment with a streaming service or two.

I might get back into it.
The Oscars will stream exclusively on YouTube, starting in 2029.

The company that makes Hoffner bass filed for bankruptcy. That’s one of the most iconic instruments of all time and it’s pretty sad.

Also last year a friend let me play his 65 or 67 hoffner and after an hour he said I should never attempt to make music again.

Jammed bass for the first time in a year. My friend joked that I play like high school guys pretending to do spanish guitar to impress girls. That's exactly what I did. Never properly learned anything, just play for fun. Fingers and thumb, no pick. Been doing it wrong for 30 years apparently.Oh well

Can a song get anymore perfect than this?
One Spinal Tap joke I overlooked for years was the song 'Big Bottom.' It's all drums and bass. No guitar. So all 'bottom' musically speaking.

In my latest substack I discuss how 2026's content slate: Game of Thrones, Avengers, GTA VI, Toy Story, Hunger Games - all stacked into one window.

Studios being greenlit now launch directly into the Q2 2027 reset. Survivors won't be shipping products—they'll be governing platforms.

I saw Stand by Me at 8, When Harry Met Sally at 10. My idiot brother thought it was better family viewing than Batman. I watched Meg Ryan fake an orgasm having no idea what it was but it was funny. Reiner let Gen-X experience mature stories without infantilizing us. Brilliant. What a legend.

I checked out the F1 soundtrack for the Hans Zimmer vibes and the entire soundtrack has everything from Doja Cat to Tiesto. One of the best sunday afternoon soundtracks I've heard - its a perfect birthday gift from the universe.

A "hub" isn't just a platform or a live-service game.

Fortnite is a hub. So are Critical Role and Roblox.

The MCU tried to be one and couldn't govern it.

However, most entertainment companies are structurally incapable of making that transition.

I wrote about this on my substack.

Why Gen Z and Alpha aren't buying your $70 games.
They spend on participation, not consumption. Your premium story asks them to watch. They want to build.

Special thanks to @celiahodent.com whose book the Gamer's Brain and games as learning systems was a core foundation piece for this write up.

I held out on getting a Switch2 until the latest Hyrule Warriors came out and the performance is remarkable. My son and I played Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity to death on split screen and until this game, there wasnt much for us a reason to upgrade. The frame rate delays and lag is gone!
