'The Singing Neanderthal' is my favorite book of 2025 - Mithen's core idea is that ancient humans came up with the holistic "Hmmmm" communication system—Holistic, Multi-modal, Musical, Mimetic, Manipulative to survive. This book is a charming mixtape of anthropology, archaeology, and neuroscience.

This is a really fun book. I've always enjoyed @kyla.bsky.social's takes and i love how she's basically gen-z'd economics (long overdue). I would like to say I wasted seven years of my life studying econ and I wish I had a book like this instead of being force-fed Milton Friedman (IKR).

This reminded me of Baudrillard’s Illusionary Balance - I committed to reading @ianschreiber.bsky.social this month out of supporting your friends and for someone as big of a mental laggard as myself it was a great read. I don’t know Brenda Romero but my circle raves about her - I can see why.

The company that makes Hoffner bass filed for bankruptcy. That’s one of the most iconic instruments of all time and it’s pretty sad.

Also last year a friend let me play his 65 or 67 hoffner and after an hour he said I should never attempt to make music again.

I held out on getting a Switch2 until the latest Hyrule Warriors came out and the performance is remarkable. My son and I played Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity to death on split screen and until this game, there wasnt much for us a reason to upgrade. The frame rate delays and lag is gone!

Edge of the World - some really amazing vistas. It reminded me of Meteora but in the desert.

After 25 years in #gamedev getting featured on Steam's front page still feels surreal!

Azooma: Escape hit the front page of Steam and got appreciated by Hideo Kojima I've worked on things that have won a Peabody and frontpaged many mobile and console store but getting on Steam was mind blowing.

Gave away my amp yesterday. I havent been playing for six months and quite frankly the writing was on the wall. It was a really great amp but it belonged with someone who played far more regularly than me. I know there's this hype about digital amps nowadays but nothing sounds as good as Marshall.

Dad is 78 and dealing with memory loss and we're working on helpful routines. He used to be a "watch man" but stopped wearing 25 y/ago after a wrist injury from falling during an evening hike in Athens. My son selected this Tissot. We thought having a watch again might help anchor his daily routine.

I met up with a friend who recently lost her dog. We spoke about how we handled grief, support and how we chose to remember them. In my case an orange dial watch for Topak.

I lost my beloved cat and a close friend. Grief settled into my days, and I searched for something to help me breathe again.

I went about searching and came across 'Origament: A Paper advenute' through a Linkedin post. What I found was more than a game—I found a digital sanctuary (1/3)

For reference: This is literally a langa with a duputta. The duputta itself has been a sign of resistance amongst South Asian women. The people who appropriated it have aggravated a pride of lionesses. We take our shawls and duputtas very, very, very seriously!

I lost my cat recently and found myself reaching for Byung-Chul Han’s “Vita Contemplativa” to help me process.

“The Burnout Society” showed me how I was grinding myself down - that voice demanding constant achievement, turning rest into a task to optimize. “Vita Contemplativa” was my remedy. (1 →)
