The oldest tradition in hockey is letting a general manager make franchise-defining decisions with one foot out the door.

it would be a huge mistake for the Sabres to re-sign Tuch

Smart for the Fenway Group to get out of the NHL right now

The Flames and LA should do a deal of Danault + Conditional 1st for Kadri at 1.5 retained as the framework.

If Calgary sees Parekh as a long term, high value commitment going forward, turning Kadri's 3yr term for Danault's 2yr term gives the flames an extra $7m in cap to work with on that deal.

if you're an NHL GM, you gotta be calling Jarmo and Alvin right now and don't stop until they pick up the phone

LOL Did Kevyn Adams get fired for not landing Quinn Hughes?
It’s official - Kevyn Adams is out, Jarmo Kekäläinen named the new Sabres general manager

The larger point here is that this is a tremendous opportunity for the Canucks to continue to sell of valuable roster components for the next three seasons and trading the non-draft-pick returns for even more draft picks over the next two seasons.

For Example, play Rossi 21 mins a night and retain
This Vancouver rebuild is over before it starts if it hinges on these players being Canucks 3 years from now.

The Canucks should flip Rossi and the prospects over the next two years after playing them in value beneficial scenarios

Dear Jim Rutherford,

Can you please make a trade to show up the rest of these front offices that refuse to do anything but watch their teams spiral into the abyss?

Thank you in advance!

@thomasdrance.bsky.social is wrong

Signing Quinn Hughes is diametrically opposed to the Canucks being successful in the future by drafting well.

Any attempt to re-sign Hughes is a mistake.

If the NHL trade market is stuck to the point that players are accepting buyouts of their existing contracts just for the opportunity to change teams, the NHLPA CBA negotiations have largely failed.

Player movement is a necessary evil to increase earning potential.

McDavid, you better request that trade right now

Stan Bowman's options are do nothing or make a huge mistake.

I don't think you should be able to do this without being called for a penalty, even if the score is 6-1 and Dallas is eating you alive on the PP

It is staggering to compare this to the tire fire in Calgary.

If you are a Canucks fan, this should actually make you feel pretty good.

Everyone in the league knows that Verbeek will pull the trigger on a deal he likes because he's already done it.

When the league knows you'll make a trade, it encourages the rest of the league to get serious with their offers because if you don't, that player is going to end up elsewhere.
The Chris Johnston Show (Nov 24): On Pavel Mintyukov, CJ reaffirms he is not happy that he's not playing games. Says Anaheim doesn't feel like they need to trade him and will be patient with this. #FlyTogether  #NHL

This should honestly feel pretty good if you're a Canucks fan.

There are big changes coming that need to happen and at least this management group can see that compared to the shitshow in Calgary and Toronto.
"Use whatever word people like, whether it's somewhat of a rebuild, not a full blown rebuild, but a rebuild-retool, whatever." -- JR said this to me unprompted.

It is insane to have entered the same situation in Toronto where he had already experienced this with Gaudreau and Calgary, only to let it happen again with the same results.
It is extremely funny to me how bad the leafs are without Marner.

Rasmus Andersson needs to sign whatever extension is available from the Flames and worry about where he plays for the duration of that contract afterwards.

This is John Klingberg 2.0 situation playing out in real time again.

Take the money, man!

A rebuilding pitfall is that good players look worse on rebuilding teams because they have no one to play with and ok players look better because they have no one on the roster to drive down their minutes.

It's easy to confuse a bottom 6 player playing 19 minutes a night with being a top 6 player.

The tragedy of the Canucks is the Benning years set them up for a natural end of competitive cycle, but the new management have pushed through it.

The President of a Hockey Operations role generally serves to provide shade to their General Manager from the scrutiny of the public and ownership during periods of unexpected or dismal results.

The lack of a President in Toronto right now is an opportunity for the Leafs to make some changes.
