Turkey reached 50.0°C for the first time in recorded history today (preliminary)

This isn’t just a heatwave, It’s the edge of human survival. In low humidity just 30 minutes of exposure risks heat stroke. Increasing humidity shortens that time.

This is climate change, and it’s accelerating.

This is crazy.

Storforshei, Norway has reached 30°C for 12 consecutive days.

To be clear, this is right on the edge of the Arctic circle. The extent & duration of this heatwave is nothing short of astonishing.

Oh dear..

That cooling period didn’t last very long, average global temperatures are currently the warmest on record for today’s date.

This is without El Niño. This is absolutely bonkers.

We’re going to need a bigger scale..

The exceptional mediterranean heatwave continues with anomalies close to 8°C above average.

This is around 9 standard deviations above normal. 5 is considered an exceptional, once in a several thousand year event. This is EXTREME.

≥GFS went for 12 consecutive days of ≥30°C during its 12z model run today.
This was the theoretical forecast for 2050 produced by the Met Office in December 2020..

It is the 10 year anniversary of a rather notable heat spike, I like to think this was start of madness. At time it was historic, 36.7C at Heathrow was enough to be national record for July, but now 10 years on it is totally dwarfed by events of recent years. How much has changed so rapidly.

It gets worse.

As of June 24th, parts of the Mediterranean are now running more than 5 to 6°C above normal, that’s around 8+ standard deviations from the average.

For context, the chart you’re looking at maxes out at +3°C. This heat is literally off the scale.

This is extreme.

This is phenomenal.

Sea surface temperatures are >5C above average to the west of the UK and around Iceland. It's the strongest area of anomalous warmth on the planet at the moment.

It's the warmest in recorded history for northwest Europe.

We’re in the “Don’t Look Up” era.

Climate change is accelerating, the science is clear and yet denial is thriving. Worse still, parties like Reform UK spread deliberate misinformation while the planet burns.

Heat records are tumbling all over the planet on an almost daily basis

New year, same warming climate.

Despite La Niña global temperatures are currently the warmest on record for the time of year and have been all month.

It’s likely January 2025 will be the warmest January on record, globally. Beating the previous record set just last year 📈
