All the bamboo and rattan is an odd choice for a Dixieland jazz club. Like someone didn’t know if they wanted it to be a tiki bar in an earlier draft #TheStrip #NoirAlley #TCMParty

aka water rights are everything in the American West. Control them, and you control the destiny of a great city. #Chinatown #TCMParty
It’s the story of how the developers of the San Fernando Valley stole the water rights of the farmers further east. John Huston’s character is the most powerful of these bigwigs, and Jake gets pulled into Huston’s professional and personal corruption when he’s hired to bring down Mulwray.

Fun fact about me: Edward Taylor, the unsung, uncredited cowriter of Chinatown (definitely read The Big Goodbye if you love this movie), was my landlord for years before he moved to England. He was a nice guy. #TCMParty #Chinatown

Trump is surrounded by dimwitted and sycophantic oafs like his sons, Corey Lewandowski, Kristi Noem, Dan Scavino, Kash Patel, Pam Bondi, Mike Johnson, Tommy Tuberville, etc....a conversation with Mamdani must have felt like an incredible breath of fresh air.

After years of living in Minnesota I felt I’d had my fill of the annual Edmund Fitzgerald stories, but @christalawler.bsky.social & @janahollingsworth.bsky.social found some new ones and tell them beautifully. No paywall:
50 years later, the mystery of the Edmund Fitzgerald still haunts the children of its lost crew

Now that it's the 50th anniversary week: I regret not having the energy to go to Whitefish Point, MI this summer to visit the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. By the time I hit Duluth, let alone the Keewenaw Peninsula, I was like sorry, Edmund Fitzgerald, I don't have another day's long drive in me

For all of us watching this weekend, incredible thread re: book v movie
I have seen Frankenstein 2025 for a second and third time. Fabulous movie. I love it.
However the more I contemplate it the more major differences I find from the book. This thread will document the many drastic differences between the Del Toro movie and Mary Shelley's work.
Obviously spoilers ahead

His campaign has made me really wish we could get a Presidential candidate who loves America the way Mamdani loves NYC. Not in the jingoistic flag-waving way, but someone who genuinely loves all the individuality and particularity of American cities and towns and rural areas.
