Every time one anti-vaxxer is quoted in the media, one million scientists and healthcare workers should also be quoted in support of vaccines.

False equivalence in the media is killing us.

Having children is a commitment to the future.
And too many people don’t feel secure enough about their lives now or in the future to make that commitment and have the children they’d like.

And until we address that issue, birth rates are unlikely to increase. My op-ed in @newsweek.com.
Low Birth Rates Are Here To Stay | Opinion
Individuals and families need to be supported by a strong social safety net that includes paid leave and a robust child care infrastructure. There are no quick fixes.

🚨GREAT NEWS! California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii have created their own health alliance, saying the CDC has become “a political tool that increasingly peddles ideology instead of science.”

New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island have now done the same.

New, from me:
America is no longer a functioning democracy. It is a competitive authoritarian system, hurtling rapidly toward authoritarianism.
This was a hard piece to write but we can't move forward if we don’t acknowledge where we are.

10/ Someone recently emailed asking why we haven't heard about bird flu lately. The virus has been fairly quiet this summer. Seasonal slowdowns, bird migration, and herds no longer being susceptible may explain the lull. Only 3 human H5N1 cases have been reported in the U.S. this year vs 67 in 2024.

One of the most promising areas of cancer research is CAR T therapy, in which a "living drug" is made by modifying a patient's T-cells.

Research suggests that mRNA can improve the safety of CAR-T therapy because it prevents genome integration.

Don't listen to RFK's lies about mRNA being unsafe.

Concerning news from @cidrap.bsky.social:

Cambodia has 15 human bird flu cases this year; ~50% death rate 🪦.

Meanwhile, RFK Jr. just cut $500M in funding for mRNA vaccine research—projects that could speed vaccines for flu, COVID, & bird flu.

These cuts are a direct threat to our biosecurity.
