Ok so I've got a lot of new academic followers and I need to warn you that my feed is about 15% academic stuff and 85% dogs, cats and bread making. I also like to see what people are knitting/crocheting. So basically I like knowing other academics but mostly for the non-academic stuff you post!

Ugh the opthalmology referral went to the wrong hospital - I've just had a text 'reminding' me (first I've heard of it!) that I have an appt in the centre of Leicester next Tuesday at 5.40. That is an absolute no for many reasons so now I get to spend tomorrow doing extra disability admin!

Interested to read Rachel Aviv's piece about Oliver Sacks in 8/12/25 New Yorker. "The doctor who mistook his patients for a literary career" wrote case studies which were partly fictitious (apparently, the family were unhappy that a photo of "Uncle Tungsten" was actually of another uncle).

This morning's offering is Sleigh Ride, which is nice and festive without being offensively Christmas. Brings back happy memories of when I played with the Birmingham Gay Symphony Orchestra 10+ years ago. #BeckyFM
This morning's #BeckyFM offering is Gaudete, which is unsurprising because yesterday I decided I was going to attempt to memorise all four verses, in Latin, by Christmas.
I'm sure this will be a success and not drive me and all who live with me to distraction.

When we had a Jack Russell (who we sadly lost a couple of yrs ago) we had 0 birds in our garden because she always chased them off 😂 This week we logged 10 species on the BTO Birdwatch & we get such a lot of joy from seeing all our garden visitors. If this is middle age, I'm very much down with it!

British Gas engineer arrived at 9am today, did some wizardry and now we have heating and hot water again!

Agatha is being spayed tomorrow and they originally said it would be around £100. Because she needs pre-bloods and an IV throughout that is now £320!? Vet maths is maths I can't do.

Started putting up the Christmas decorations today. Started by breaking the fairy lights that were already up (and then a second set), then got distracted with a kitten and a train. Still, time for Die Hard now as is traditional! 🎄 No the tree is not up yet shush.
