Unconstitutional. Appropriations bills are laws. If the president is not bound by them, he can make laws by fiat and is acting like a dictator. No Democrat can vote for any appropriations or debt ceiling bill while this is happening.

Unconstitutional. Appropriations bills are laws. If the president is not bound by them, he can make laws by fiat and is acting like a dictator. No Democrat can vote for any appropriations or debt ceiling bill while this is happening.

Again, folks seem not to grasp how much this is a total collapse of the Constitutional order. A random private citizen is running the "Cabinet" meeting of POTUS & the Principal Officers of the Executive Departments, & going around unplugging large portions of the government. And we're all just 🤷♂️
This man is barely even a formal government employee, let alone elected or Senate-confirmed. A total failure of the Constitutional order, just broadcast & normalized by every major media outlet.
Elon Musk is now presiding over the cabinet meeting. They're not beating the co-president allegations. (And co-president might be putting it charitably for Trump.)

yes! the idea that the executive can simply make spending decisions independent of a legislature or parliament is basically antithetical to the entire anglo-american political tradition
This is so antithetical to the English legal tradition that they killed Charles I about it, and then they couped James II
Chip Roy endorses impoundment (which is illegal): "All the powers our founders gave were invested in the executive, in the president. POTUS has the ability to go forward and say, 'we're gonna spend this money the way we're supposed to under the law.' There's no requirement he spend every dollar."
