Got a couple of these 750ml bottles in the cupboard…to share with friends when I get a chance

I don’t think this one has hit 20 years yet (more like 10 years old) - but we have a 2nd tree in storage that is close to 20 years old & still going strong, should my wife have a need for a 2nd dose of festive spirit somewhere else in the house (we do have a 3rd tree up permanently all year😳)

Artificial trees are a much easier proposition…and allow early deployment of festive fun (although the jury is still out on whether I’d call 24x7 festive Christmas tunes ‘fun’😁😂)

After a long absence from my Korean language lessons, I’m really pleased to be starting learning again tomorrow morning. Now going back through some old worksheets in the vain hope I can desperately refresh my basic language knowledge so my teacher doesn’t totally give up on me tomorrow😁

Err…it’s currently much less tidy! This is what is should be more like…but there are a mountain of packing crates there right now

My wife has got active projects now going on all of the workbench space currently usable in our workshop😬. I think it’s her way of telling me to tidy up the other side of the workshop…

They do get a tad toasty if you run them with the original thermal pads and heatsinks. I upgraded the thermal pad and went overkill on the heatsink too😁. KA7OEI has an excellent article on the thermal upgrades ka7oei.blogspot.com/2023/08/impr...

After months of being a bit under the weather and listless, I’m finally starting to get some radio mojo back. This weekends projects are to finish mounting an upgraded RX888 Mk2 (improved heat management and low frequency performance), and design/print a case for a N4CY bias-t

Classic industrial colour scheme! My mini lathes is dark blue and cream 👍

🤣 it’s always good when she drags me to that place…their shop is a goldmine of lathes, drills etc. I bought a BCA jig borer from them a while back…just waiting for me to give it some TLC

They are for applying pressure to boxes she makes, allowing the glue she uses to dry out. She currently uses brass ‘rectangles’ but she sometimes needs a heavier/larger weight, so these new weights will be handy for glueing up larger boxes

Wife wanted to go shopping today…dresses, perfumes, jewellery…nope, none of those…blocks of aluminium😂☺️. She was also highly tempted by a broaching press - but I distracted her with the shiny aluminium blocks www.homeandworkshop.co.uk/stock-item/m...

I’ve just upgraded the thermal pad on one of mine. I tried putting copper tape on the bottom of mine - and it makes it so much easier to slide back into the enclosure. I’ve some spare thermal mat if you do get one👍
June 15, 2025 at 11:15 AM
It does - you need to make sure the thermal upgrades are done before that! It gets hot… so bigger thermal pad, and maybe upgrade the heatsink 😊

This is the last 32Mhz spectrum I grabbed about two months ago. I’ll take another look tomorrow - as I have been reconfiguring the setup to have linear PSUs and be able to run everything from battery. I understand the notches for amateur bands is one indicator to look for

I love getting a new Sotabeams delivery…but really miss the Haribo sweets that G3CWI included in every order😕

Sometimes I look at a bill of materials and just say….nah!

I feel your pain! When the wire gauge gets larger, I pray only a few ferrites are
involved. I’ve still got a QRO band pass filter set to finish somewhere - and a few of the bands have such thick wire I can only manage a couple of the toroids a day!

Not mine - these are Roland HB9VQQ SDRs - a great QTH, great receivers and great antennas. However I absolutely echo your sentiment! All the relevant links on his QRZ page www.qrz.com/db/HB9VQQ

It would be my pleasure - I’ll send you a link a little later. Longer term I want to use IQ recordings from ka9q-radio to put together larger waterfalls - which your program seems to excel at! I have now managed to decode the psk signal as well using a flow graph at github.com/henningM1r/g...

That would be awesome! I managed to open the file in Universal Radio Hacker (it‘s the BBC Radio 4 on 198kHz & I’m trying to see the two embedded psk data channels www.sigidwiki.com/wiki/UK_AM_D.... I also managed to open the IQ file in GNUradio but not decoding yet github.com/henningM1r/g...

And my gridfinity OCD is satiated just a little

Argh! First 3D print failure…or rather a failure of the operator’s measuring skills. Who knew Wiha have even smaller screwdrivers. A set has been ordered from Amazon to arrive this evening (with Pentalobe heads - something I don’t have in my collection)
