Fake or the real thing? How AI can make it harder to trust the pictures we see
A new study has revealed that artificial intelligence can now generate images of real people that are virtually impossible to tell apart from genuine photographs.

I don't think changing semantics are the problem with this article, but the unoppinionated statements on moral weight we ascribe towards conscious beings of any kind. She seems perfectly fine with having no moral considerations towards conscious life, and having AI reinforce this by simulation.
Bahahahahaha The New York Times just printed an opinion piece declaring "AI is intelligent, so long as we redefine what intelligence means to include it. And soon AI will be conscious, because we'll just redefine consciousness too!"

These principles of folkways become interesting when applied to online speech which show properties of oral and written speech, for instance conspiracies or outrage cascades, which carry both signs of mnemonic, narrative and factual character.

The LLMs-have-no-usecase argument needs to be put to rest. It's clearly false. There are plenty of use cases for text generators coupled with an interpolatable archive, from science to communication. This is just lazy thinking.
i’ve said this before but lemme say it again. it makes absolutely 0 sense to talk about “misuse” of llms because there is no clear use or purpose for llms to begin with. genAI is a purposeless tech floating around looking for uptake
