NHS performance director. Recent returner to the North. Interested in healthcare, data, slow running, fast talking and (sadly) MUFC.
Just to assure everyone I AM LOOKING AT ALL OF IT. ALL THE TIME. EVEN WHEN IM ASLEEP.
A significant theme emerging from discussions at #NTSummit: it’s all very well to collect data, but who’s looking at it and what are they doing with it? If we don’t meaningfully use the data we collect to take practical action that drives improvement, what’s the point?

Also, I’ve long held the view that the NHS loves the churn of quantity.

But that’s like going on a motorway in first gear, putting the foot down and wondering why you’re getting nowhere fast despite the smoke from the overworked engine.

Fundamentally many discussions of public sector productivity come down to questions about measurement. ONS and NHSE measure productivity in different ways. That's why they get different answers - in this case, very different.

Just put “chase waterfalls” in my diary as a reminder to follow up on the improvement charts required for performance delivery and this is as close as I’ll ever get to being an RnB star hey.

Bringing positive ✨vibes✨to 2025, and hoping to find some online voices here to share them with.

I’ll be hoping to think and share more about NHS performance recovery, particularly the return to 18 weeks, as well as hopefully getting to know Greater Manchester and Cheshire better.

Tomorrow I shall ditch the car and catch the bus to work in support. 🐝
Overnight tonight we will mobilise the single biggest change to buses in the UK for decades as the remaining half of services in GM come back under public control.

Thank you to everyone who has worked through Christmas and New Year to make this happen. 🙏🏻
