Calling all Metro nerds.

Say one is getting consistent pushback on a bus fare suspension, how might a council that doesn’t control the transit authority force policy? Statute setting for transit requirements? Can budget allocations be based on free fare?

Inquiring minds want creativity.

Citations for trash, debris or inoperable cars on your property can lead to $50 fines a day until you’re in compliance. For elderly, cost-burdened homeowners in Nashville, this can be make or break. A new private-public-nonprofit partnership seeks to remediate code violations for these homeowners.

Since we’re in a housing public hearing about DADUs, I’ll share my DADU story.

The 1st place I lived on my own was a DADU. I LOVED that apartment, despite its shag green carpet. I lived there for 3 years, & rent was low enough that my federal loans covered rent, utilities, & law school tuition.

Also people can decide for themselves if they feel there is stigma, and they don’t want to participate. It shouldn’t be on us to decide for someone else if they feel stigmatized.

(Also there shouldn’t be stigma.)
Or if stigma is the driving concern AGAINST this (it’s not, but let’s assume it is), GO FARE FREE FOR EVERYONE.

Republicans control all 3 branches of government.

Our government is of the people, for the people and by the people. Yet the only people who can do anything about it - Republicans - have decided to not show up, to not pay people, to not feed people, and to not talk to people.

In the wake of Charlie Kirk's death, a TN sheriff had a 61-yr-old man arrested for posting a meme on Facebook, which the sheriff absurdly construed as a threat. It was pretty clearly bullshit but I dug into the case using FB & public records and now it looks even worse. My latest @theintercept.com:
The Absurd Prosecution of a Man Who Posted a Charlie Kirk Meme
Larry Bushart Jr. posted trolling memes on a Facebook thread about a vigil for Kirk. He’s been in a Tennessee jail ever since.

I am grateful for this! Thank you to all who made this a reality including tax payers!
A fare free transit option is a tremendous win and we can make it a reality for people who can’t afford to get to a specific place at a specific time. Grateful for friends like @themanaen.bsky.social and @nikkiv.bsky.social and what they’re doing in our community.

This is why I moved to a neighborhood with sidewalks. This is why I ride my bike when I can. This is why I teach my kids to ride WeGo.

It’s easy to hate who and what you don’t get to meet and see. It’s a lot harder when you’re really seeing everyone and everything around you.

I was today days old when I learned our amazing 911 operators & MNFD have stunningly beautiful loft-like offices & halls that take up half a block in the highest rent district in town.

But in all seriousness, I do wish people could see the real spaces. Our first responders do a lot for a little.

Rubber hitting the road for folks here.

Each of my kids gets a mama-kid Disney trip for fall break when they turn 6. This is my last such trip, & that baby has spent her whole life listening to her siblings talk up this trip.

Her only Disney trip. My last Disney trip. Really need that ✈️ next week.
