Noise pollution is a common problem in urban environments. The morning begins with cargobike deliveries all over Paris. Bikes are quiet, efficient, & carry large loads. Streets are for people & the morning is for quiet.

This week the international air tattoo takes place near me. For the next week a steady roar of planes will fly over my house. This is on top of the small planes regularly flying over, disturbing our peace.

I can't imagine living under the flight path of a major airport. Help stop airport expansion.
Can you sign our petition, and if you've already signed it, can you pass it on to 10 people? We are running out of time to reach the minimum 10k sigs for it to be sent to Parliament.

I regularly meet people with #tinnitus who have suffered for years without seeking help, or who didn't know help is out there.

Here's something I wrote about my ongoing experience with an #NHS hearing therapist. Help is available; please speak to your GP for a referral.

Hearing therapy and what it’s taught me about tinnitus

So many birds singing beautifully tonight. Although a magpie vs squirrel thing just kicked off a minute ago! Squirrel is holding his ground at the top of the wild cherry tree 😆

Sound or Noise? What are you hearing?

I’d like you to imagine a scenario. You’re sat at home, on your sofa, you’ve just finished work and you want to wind down. What do you do? My first thought would be a cold glass of alcohol-free beer. My second would be, ‘how about some music.’ So, if you’re…

My second would be, ‘how about some music.’ So, if you’re like me you turn on your wireless speaker, connect your phone and depending on the kind of day you’ve had the music coming out could be anything from opera to country western, heavy metal to the songs of Disney (just me?).

Travelling in peace, or the search for a silent minibar

So, hands up, who can’t wait to book their next holiday? I love to travel and I really love hotels. I don’t understand people who say, “it’s just a place to sleep.” Ok, sure, if it’s an overnight stop on the way to your destination then a motorway motel will probably be ok. But if I’m spending more than a night there then I need comfort, quiet and at the very least a rain shower.

Walking down a grey corridor in an unloved NHS community hospital, the curled edges of leaflets about coping with old age poking out of wire stands, I’m feeling a bit suspicious about how hearing therapy could help me. I enter a large room, peeling magnolia paint, tiny cell-like window, two chairs in the middle of the room. And there sat on one of the chairs my therapist.

Requested a hotel room on a high floor, away from the road. Instead we got a low floor next to the road, and the hotel is fully booked. Good job I've got my Flare Audio ear plugs with me 😕

The car noise is so loud today I can hardly hear the birds outside. We don't need more EVs - heavier cars = more road noise. We must reduce our reliance on cars of all sorts.

Let the birds be heard.

Just about to leave the house for the day - excellent timing as my neighbour is having his conservatory fixed for the umpteenth time.

Did you know this about these elusive creatures?
- They need to eat their body weight every 24 hours as they have a very high metabolic rate
- They can walk on water
- They can tackle prey up to 60 times their own weight

Some people living with tinnitus may find it difficult to get a good nights sleep.

Spent the day listening to chainsaws, leaf blowers and distressed birds. A landlord has cleared a tree and nature haven because they'd rather remove the tree than pay for upkeep of the area. Fingers crossed we might have saved some of the area after talking to the council. V.sad (and angry) day 😥

After a couple of hot weeks the weather has turned in the UK. I'm taking the opportunity to sit with the window open enjoying the wind tousling the leaves in the creaking trees. Just need a short sharp shower to finish off the natural soundscape.
