The Portal Keeper - Uncanny Magazine
October 1st   The rabbit was back this morning. It stopped outside the portal like it always does and it checked its pocket watch like it always does. It doesn’t matter—the rabbit’s always late. So fa...

I've been reading Uncanny submissions since the magazine was founded, and I have NEVER seen a submission deluge like this one. 🥵
Please SHARE! Writers! We want to apologize that we are still processing the recent short story submissions. Uncanny Magazine was hit with a massive volume of submissions due to AI subs. We hope to get through the pile over the next two weeks. Thank you for your patience.

The state of Missouri has executed Marcellus Williams.

This was murder.

My heart aches for Marcellus Williams. This bitter injustice is just so unconscionable.

Another Elsevier paper with obvious AI-written text.

“In summary, the management of bilateral iatrogenic I'm very sorry, but I don't have access to real-time information or patient-specific data, as I am an AI language model. “

Update: it is 15 days later and I am still obsessing over Immortality. I am ravingly jealous of anyone who hasn't had the chance to play it yet, who still gets to look forward to the experience of playing through it for the first time.
@mrsambarlow.bsky.social My husband and I played all of Immortality yesterday in a single sitting, and I am still reeling. It was absolutely incredible. I didn't think anything could top Telling Lies! Please keep making rich, literary interactive film-based mystery games. There's nothing like them.

I just heard the announcement of @mrsambarlow.bsky.social's Project C and D, and I am HYPED. The world needs more of these strange and wonderful experimental, filmic puzzle box games. (I certainly do!) www.gameinformer.com/2024/01/23/p...

Finally getting around to finishing Ted Lasso, and I'm horrified. Season 3 is borderline unwatchable at times. What on earth happened to one of my favorite shows? This feels like one of Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett's parodies of bad sit-coms they used to do on SNL.

First time making it across the finish line in November! 🎉🍾

Less than 2,500 words to the end of the finish line of NaNoWriMo 2023!

Congrats to Prophet Song and Paul Lynch for securing the Booker win! Ironically, and purely by chance, it was the ONLY book on the shortlist I hadn't read any of yet.

Having read 4.5 of the shortlisted Booker Prize nominees, my pick is The Bee Sting, with Western Lane in close second. Loving the live-streamed event. This is my Super Bowl.

5 of 13 on the Booker longlist now read! (And considering I initially planned to knock the whole thing out by the winner's announcement on Sunday, I am way behind!) Paul Murray's The Bee Sting was a masterfully executed multi-generational story full of surprises & it's currently my pick to win. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Just hit 40K words on NaNoWriMo! Good luck to other NaNos right now. We're in the home stretch!
November 24, 2023 at 3:50 AM
It's been a weird year for NaNoWriMo, but I'm still hanging on and staying slightly ahead of schedule. 35,000 words in, I think I may have fairly good chances of making it to the 50K goal for the first time ever.

My current Booker Prize longlist read appears to be Juniper-approved.
November 10, 2023 at 11:04 PM
Today I officially surpassed my previous longest NaNoWriMo attempt, which was a bit over 21K words. Honestly, even if I were to lose steam and tap out tomorrow, I would still call this NaNoWriMo a personal success.

Bafflingly, this year's NaNoWriMo productivity streak continues. I'm trying not to make any sudden movements so as to not scare it off.
