Less than 2,500 words to the end of the finish line of NaNoWriMo 2023!

5 of 13 on the Booker longlist now read! (And considering I initially planned to knock the whole thing out by the winner's announcement on Sunday, I am way behind!) Paul Murray's The Bee Sting was a masterfully executed multi-generational story full of surprises & it's currently my pick to win. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Just hit 40K words on NaNoWriMo! Good luck to other NaNos right now. We're in the home stretch!

It's been a weird year for NaNoWriMo, but I'm still hanging on and staying slightly ahead of schedule. 35,000 words in, I think I may have fairly good chances of making it to the 50K goal for the first time ever.

My current Booker Prize longlist read appears to be Juniper-approved.

Today I officially surpassed my previous longest NaNoWriMo attempt, which was a bit over 21K words. Honestly, even if I were to lose steam and tap out tomorrow, I would still call this NaNoWriMo a personal success.

Bafflingly, this year's NaNoWriMo productivity streak continues. I'm trying not to make any sudden movements so as to not scare it off.

4 of 13 on the Booker longlist now complete! Western Lane surprised me by being one of my favorites so far. I ravenously read the whole book in just a few hours. This was a lovely, quiet, subtle novel that genuinely moved me. I'll definitely be looking for more from Chetna Maroo.⭐⭐⭐⭐

OK, I don't want to jinx it, but I have never had a more productive start to NaNoWriMo in the many times I've attempted it! I guess the secret to a productive start is signing up last minute on a whim, feeling a little "meh" on it, and putting zero pressure on myself to write anything good?

3 of 13 now read on the Booker longlist! Despite being very short, Study for Obedience proved to be a bit of a slog for me to get through. There's a lot to admire in how the author pulled off the psychological darkness of a self-flagellating unreliable narrator, but the book just didn't grab me. ⭐⭐⭐

2 of 13 now complete on my Booker Prize longlist read-along! This Other Eden by Paul Harding was a lovely (if at times overwritten) novel casting a much-needed light on the tragic story of Malaga Island. ⭐⭐⭐

Booker longlist read update: 1 down, 12 to go! Pearl by Siân Hughes was a strong start: a beautiful debut novel exploring grief, coming of age, and the treachery of childhood memory. Entirely unpretentious and genuinely moving. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
