If you were going to ask me to imagine what a 1000 year old tree looked like this is exactly where I'd go with it
Nothing to see here, just a chicken

Oh, and the ONE THOUSAND year old Bowthorpe Oak, Lincolnshire

One of my favorite images from the Cassini era. H/T to John Spencer, Southwest Research Institute, Boulder, CO for reminding me of it.

It's never about the science. It's always about having a legal basis for your fear and hatred of other people.
My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"?

Biological sex is not binary. www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-...
Sex Redefined: The Idea of 2 Sexes Is Overly Simplistic
Biologists now think there is a larger spectrum than just binary female and male

I do love Dracula as a Billy-no-mates pretending to have servants. Almost Fawltyesque. “I am informed that your supper is ready...”

I feel like this quote is the quote of quotes of our time
"There is no arc of history bending towards justice. There's only us, working to make the world a better place."

I loved this conversation with three of my favorite writers in the world.
Our latest episode is about writing historical fiction. How do you research the past, and how do you make it feel urgent in the present? We talked to @nicolaz.bsky.social and @tananarivedue.bsky.social to find out more!

People asked Meryl Streep how she could REALLY not have known about Weinstein, and she was basically like “because I’m fucking Meryl Streep, and I didn’t know because he NEEDED me not to know.” she was vital as part of the cover story

Has literally anyone who’s posting “but she seemed to be consenting to Neil Gaiman” heard of the fawn response?

It’s an extremely common response to trauma, especially among those who have suffered from past trauma. Source: Bay Area CBT Center

So, yeah, I don't know much about the situation with Gaiman, but I do know that when I see a person smiling, thanking, supporting a man they later accuse of sexual assault, I don't see an impossible contradiction.
