It’s handy being married to a man who can #travel magically. A quick wink & he’s at the shop buying milk; another and he’s back and I carry on making cuppas. The only trouble is our baby’s taken after him: on fleetingly closing one eye she disappears. Sleep? We never get a wink. #vss365

Katie was always losing things. She lost her #raincoat at the park whilst playing football. She lost her dinner money on the school bus.
But she never expected to lose her shadow. She'd had it yesterday. It had followed her all around the playground.
But now it was gone.

Purity is a dim illusion. Our bodies are night and day by nature, flesh defiled by bone, bone - no matter how white - weeded with marrow. This resistance is a famine of stars, your nerves - 7 trillion strong - singing in the dark. Give your body to my hands, and I'll light it like a galaxy.

He was well loved, but she didn’t want to share him with any other person so mastered a strange magic & turned them both into water bears. Once over the shock, being his affable self he made #tardigrade friends in the mud. She struggled & learned too late she couldn’t change them back. #vss365

An impossible chance to rewrite time. Once, he’d proposed & unhesitatingly she’d said #yes. She’d barely lived then though; this decision demanded more thought. Theirs was no marriage of romantic gestures, but there were days when she’d felt low & he’d made her laugh. That was enough. #vss365

The irony was not lost on me, that the only time I truly felt alive was when we could work closely together.

And in spite of it all, that you yourself could not learn how to love.

There are people predisposed to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and those who know it’s actually an oncoming train. But there is a third type who, upon entering any tunnel, looks for the service alcoves and measures the space between the tracks as a hedge in case that train comes. #vss365

How incredible, evolution, sharpening & tapering the beaks of birds, nighting & daying the coats of bears. With a constancy of small violences, the smartest species #trains the feet of girls to be nonfunctional in a single lifetime. Then it applies the method to brains & hearts. Incredible.

Tickets, please! The only passenger on the #train has her head in a book. The guard, ever the professional, pretends not to notice as she quickly picks it up & places it atop her neck. Sorry, it’s new, I’m not used to it yet, she says. These beauty procedures are going too far, he thinks. #vss365
