Getting ready for the #JointSession25 of the @aristotsoc.bsky.social in sunny Glasgow — and very excited to be presenting a paper I’ve been working on on the nature of confidence in rational decision-making at the #PostgraduateSession on Saturday! Looking forward to the discussion ☀️

Very interesting how Germany’s support of the overthrow of Iran’s regime is more vocal when it involves foreign bombs than when it involves non-violent protest by the Iranian people.
🇩🇪 Chancellor Merz praised Israel’s actions against Iran, calling them “the dirty work Israel is doing for all of us.” Speaking to ZDF, he stressed that Tehran’s regime enabled terror worldwide and said the West owes Israel respect for its decisive steps.

The Scottish Enlightenment is pretty weird. Like...suddenly everyone in Scotland just got super smart??

Very suspicious.

Merz just said on German TV that the primary priority of his government will be to ensure that Europe can achieve full strategic independence from the United States in the defence against Russia.

Merz was once a die hard Atlanicist. Now, after Trump he is a Gaullist.

Extraordinary.

Not being anti-fascist at this moment in history is anti-science. Probably always was. But cannot be clearer than these last few weeks.

Very interesting to look at the age distribution in the exit poll. The SPD which already did very poorly with young voters last time continues to loose further there - a party of pensioners. Interestingly, also huge losses for the Greens among young voters and massive gains for the Linke.

German election exit poll: CDU/CSU 29% (respectable, just about), AfD 19.5% (long-term worrying but no late shock), SPD 16% (historic low); Greens 13.5% (just below last time); Left 8.5% (huge last-minute spurt); FDP 4.9% (may/may not get in)

Perhaps Merz got the idea of a firewall wrong. Somebody please tell this man it’s not about setting things, e.g. democracy, on fire
In #Germany, a watershed moment: Just hours after commemorating the Holocaust, the centre-right has accepted the support of the #farright #AfD to pass a (largely symbolic) motion against immigration, tearing a massive hole into the so-called 'firewall', Germany's variety of the cordon sanitaire.
