"the language in which rediscovery is couched is often about reorienting the individual artist, assimilating her into the canon of greatness, rather than actually dismantling the structures of power that have led to such women being ignored in the first place."

By always relegating work by women artists to the zone of the neglected or forgotten, we risk only understanding them in this way.

Might start posting on here more often... guessing these terms will soon be shadowbanned on Instagram too (if they haven't been already) 🤦‍♀️

One of my best friends recommended this book to me awhile back, but I never fully finished reading it.

With the inauguration coming up next week, and the mess that will inevitably follow, it seems like a good time to actually finish this 🙃

Grew up on the water, and can't read/watch a lot of popular fictional media about pirates b/c they usually have a lot of details that don't make sense. This is such a good thread (long but worth the read!)
OKAY! So. Thanks to popular culture, when most people hear "pirate ship" they think of a big, intimidating, heavily armed vessel like a galleon or a man-of-war, like this commandeered Spanish vessel from season 2 of BLACK SAILS. 🏴‍☠️

Adding this to my TBR!
Currently reading this book, my review is going to be long, I'm making so many notes, almost all positive.
An amazing book that changed but also reinforced my perspective on quite a few subjects.
It's going to make me be able to poke more holes in films/games/etc.
Read it.
