My view of downtown LA right now. Never seen anything like this. Can’t even begin to process the scale of the devastation here.

NEW 🦠‼️ Several countries and reports have called for the creation of an Intergovernmental Panel on Pandemics. Over the last two years, we brought global health law experts together with IPCC and IPBES members, and mapped out a blueprint for its scope and governance. 🔓 papers.ssrn.com/abstract=508...

There is a LOT of people posting the same memes/images here. What’s up with that? Why not just reshare?

Gonna have to block a lot more if that is a thing.

Also reminder, Meta spent the last six months of the election cycle hiding all political content creators from the general public. All users were auto-opted into this program.
Tech has walled gardens that they will drop us into then claim they are impartial referees.

The mistake being made about Meta is to say they're just doing this to make conservatives happy. They've been doing that a decade+. Removing fact checkers and bringing back political content means there will be more stuff that gets more people mad which creates more engagement. Growth at all costs.

Just muted a bunch of words. Hopefully that improves my feed. I also will unfollow anyone who is constantly throwing jabs at others, or those who are promoting engagement bait. We will see. So far, still not tuned correctly but hopefully it gets better.

Mr. President, can you rule out [crazy thing]?

Normal president, thinking like a national leader, aims to reassure and avoid craziness in anticipation, says yes.

Trump, thinking like a TV producer, aims for current and future attention, says no.

Have to adjust questions to the new reality, media.
Q: Can you assure the world that as you try to get control of areas like Greenland or Panama you are not gonna use military or economic coercion?

TRUMP: No. I can't assure you. I'm not going to commit to that. It might be that you'll have to do something.

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars.

Even if those cars are electric.

And then there’s all the parking.

OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc.

Choices.

Simple.

That's what people want. Engagement. Takes nothing to offer it

i think rage at congestion pricing is a good example of how no one believes that the world can be positive sum anymore. like, people pay a small fee to get access to a faster commute — saving them valuable time — and the money improves public transit, saving other people valuable time. it's win-win!
