Energy transitions can happen faster than we think:

In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels.

In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.

Next week, the US Govt shutdown may impact about half the people I directly work with. The US seems to be like the only advanced democracy that does this. Why do we allow this? It should and can be impossible.

I asked the new ChatGPT some questions that led to an interesting conclusion of what life would be like without cars and big trucks in NYC - and the massive cost savings.

Maybe I shouldn’t have criticized the Denver Airport today. Looks like I’m a bit stuck now.

FOD control is not so great at Denver International Airport. I think I’ve ever seen this much garbage at a gate before.

“Air pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.”

Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability & quality of life.

Common sense.

Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.
Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.

This is actually kind of crazy and again implies it's not really any specific country's policies. But it does continue to support my "video games got too fun, more fun than baby" theory.

I think there’s a good argument to freeze all US residential electricity rates for the next five years and then only adjust for inflation after that. Industrial and commercial users need to pay for the havoc they are causing to the grid.
America’s largest power grid is under strain because of ... data centers + AI chatbots.

Wait. I thought #EV sales were going to bring down the grid? Funny, we don't seem to be hearing that so much any more.

(And informed reporters who did actual interviews consistently wrote that. Ahem.)
America's largest power grid is struggling to meet demand from AI
Electricity bills are projected to surge by more than 20% this summer in some parts of PJM Interconnection's territory, which covers 13 states.

Getting Close to 100%!

EVs were 97.7% of Norway's auto sales in June.

Full-electric vehicles or BEVs were 96.9% of June sales.

Norway is the auto future. It is five to ten years ahead of China and Europe's other auto markets.

I’m patiently waiting to see the market reaction to Iran closing the Straight of Hormuz when the oil futures market opens at 5pm CT today. Technically Iran can’t “close” it, but no nation can actually keep it open for safe passage if Iran wants it to be closed.

Iran de facto controls the Persian Gulf where close to a quarter of the oil flows to the world. It doesn’t take a genius to guess their next move.
There is no “one and done” in any conflict.

The opponent always gets a vote, and unless we’ve prepped for all the things Iran may do we’re gonna have some surprises.
