A therapeutic brand for every human nook and cranny is the profession chasing its own tail. Rather than collecting tools for every situation, we should focus on fundamentals that work in most situations.

Concisely, his six suggestions for DSM-6:

1) Offer "disorder" clarity.
2) Specify disorder validity.
3) Justify diagnostic thresholds.
4) Acknowledge descriptive gaps.
5) Include dimensional approaches.
6) Free public accessibility/transparency.

@awaisaftab.bsky.social is amazing, as usual. Loving this post.

Regarding DSM diagnostic criteria: "A best guess is fine as a starting point, but it cannot be treated as something special or sacred..." as it is basically a "pulled-out-of-the-ass threshold"

My dept is hiring!

Specialty area flexible. Applied sub-fields like forensic or I/O psych especially appealing. But a social/personality, quant/stats psych, or other 'generalist' would also fit well.

Teaching-focused, undergrad only. Life in MI is great!

So often it seems the therapeutic thing to do is get the hell out of the way while they talk.
“After years of keeping it inside me, I had finally got it out. Perhaps I should have told it to the doctor, but it would have been difficult. Yet I could tell Suzy. Because she didn’t try to analyze it; she simply let the little boy talk.”
(Kerkhoff, 1952, p. 178)

Training new clinicians in the age of behavioral treatment and managed care is very challenging and disheartening.

I very much enjoy supervising young clinicians. I appreciate their passion and enthusiasm. It is very difficult, though, because the way in which I practice often seems fundamentally

As one can imagine, I have some thoughts. Here’s a thread no one asked for:

1. SCIENCE IN THE US IS POLITICAL. No matter how much you want to ignore that fact, it is supported by taxpayer dollars and is therefore, political by nature.

2. BUT it has had bipartisan support for decades, which…
For some scientists fighting partisan attacks, the goal is to defend their work from political interference. But in retaliating, @katherinejwu.com reports, they also run the risk of advancing the narrative that they want to fight.
Scientists Are Caught in a Political Trap
Fighting back against the Trump administration means they start to look more like activists.

Bring back the Chevy Astro van.

AWD, screens and current tech, lotsa storage, vintage 80s color tones.

Every millennial parent currently driving a Pacifica, Sienna, or Odyssey would make the switch in a heartbeat. For nostalgia alone perhaps, but also because it was a solid vehicle.

We need to flood them with nominations for @cdelawalla.bsky.social given all the amazing work she’s doing in @standupforscience.bsky.social.

Y’all. She’s still in school. We gotta lift her up.
