“For, while the tale of how we suffer, and how we are delighted, and how we may triumph is never new, it always must be heard. There isn't any other tale to tell, it's the only light we've got in all this darkness.”
James Baldwin, Sonny's Blues
Real talk: The final chapter of “The Dark Knight Returns” where he faces off against Superman is the weakest bit.

So this is odd. Bsky is now putting items in my “following” tab that are not by people I am following, but contain responses of people I follow. Not a fan. This is what the “discover” tab is for.

Dear Daggerheart
Super keen to see the next release planned for next year. The deluxe edition looks lovely but is likely outside my budget.
However.
Please release the screen as a separate product.
Thanks in advance

Thinking a lot lately about the simple fact that college allows people to spend about 15 weeks immersed in a disciplinary conversation with an expert in that field. And what a special thing that is.

I adore miniminuteman and his efforts as a science/history communicator, fighting the tide of bullshit out there. But he left one important note out of his vid on the "mystery" out the Roanoke colony.

“How did you get into TTRPGs?”
Riddles in the dark
Witches sacrificing lions
A farm boy wielding starlight
Owls made of brass
The itch to seek the monstrous
Faerie rings in the glens of my forbears
Crawling in castles before I could walk

How could I not?
"How did you get into TTRPGs"

There was a book. There were words. I had to say the words. I think something might have gone amiss. I'm here now, writing new words. I don't know why. I am compelled.

I have become the cycle. It is horrible. It is bliss.

Red Pal.
Could also go with scarlet or crimson for possibly better results.

No lie, anyone looking to run a game set in the time period will benefit from picking up a replica Sears Roebuck catalog.
Doing a little research reading over lunch today. Is it all about the #Mythos and horror? Absolutely. #gamedesign

A fun teaching tech: make the students get up and explain the material you made them read with the pretext of that they will be doing your job.

I ran a D&D game I had been dreaming up for years untitled “Legally Distinct from the Smurfs.” It had the PCs hired by an Ogre wizard named Garhamel to find and exterminate a malicious Xvart village in the nearby forbidden woods. Good times.
Do you have a "most memorable" one shot you played in/ran? Any tabletop roleplaying game, any setup, just the one that sticks out in your mind the most, for better or worse.

My wife and I have been working on a solo #Daggerheart game for me to run her on. We finished up her character and ran the prelude/first session tonight. We both enjoyed and it worked very well. We look forward to more.

I got to sit down with my wife and friends to finally watch the latest adaptation of Frankenstein by @realgdt.bsky.social. We were all blown away. I have to admit specifically I got choked up by the creature's reaction when it dropped the brandy. A masterwork. Bravo.

So mixed feelings here.
Some truly great games, system wise, have been licensed properties. Perhaps the expected sales that being an established property allows for new creativity. However, all licenses end, and in the long term, it can make it very hard to get a great game that is out of print.

What fictional creature/villain traumatized you as kid?
(I came up in the 80s, so seriously, there are SOOOOOOOO many. So top 3.)

Amen
I think owning a bunch of TTRPG books, even if only to read them and never play them, is a good sign that you are someone who is curious about the nature of play.

Now excuse me while I go sit on my hoard of games, I will never get to play but love dearly.

(I’m not inclined for hot takes but why not, given the amusing discourse on bsky today.)

Hot Take: Any James Bond stories not written by Ian Flemming are fan fiction, which isn’t disqualifying. If anything it should be freeing.
