Writing is a lot like weight training. You won't be able to lift a lot at first. You start small. Short session, light weights. Day by day though you get just a *little* stronger. Eventually your sessions get longer, the bars get heavier, and everyone says "I could never do that." Just like you did.

I suppose this is why so many authors are incensed about AI “writing” — it’s clearly just something tech dullards created to compensate for their own weaknesses and now they’re projecting that on all of us.

Look, I’m sorry you suck at writing. But don’t make the rest of us suffer your failures.
Writing is thinking.

It’s not a part of the process that can be skipped; it’s the entire point.
This is what's so baffling about so many suggestions for AI in the humanities classroom: they mistake the product for the point. Writing outlines and essays is important not because you need to make outlines and essays but because that's how you learn to think with/through complex ideas.

I'm sure many have said this before but I'm reading a student-facing document about how students might use AI in the classroom (if allowed) and one of the recs is: use AI to make an outline of your reading! But ISN'T MAKING THE OUTLINE how one actually learns?

Replace “cool new A.I. tool” with “monorail,” and the songs start writing themselves.

You're not even a bad writer.

You're not a writer.

Stop pretending and learn.
If you use AI to write, you're a bad writer. I don't say that often because usually it's not "being bad", just less skilled, but in this case you're just bad.

Learn like the rest of us and stop killing the fucking planet.

Writing my Protodraft for the new WIP in German (my mother tongue I haven't used for writing except in school since I was like 10) is an absolute Pain but it does help make the drafting more concise and less massively overarching as I normally do xD tbh, everyone should try plotting like this.
