Remind me to do a thread on police crowd control formations. This is known as the "crossbow" formation, a riot police at the front with a column formed up behind it. The column will burst through the front to surprise the crowd. Often used as an arrest team to grab someone, sometimes for shock.

if you look into that study, the examples they cite are a mix of total failures that led to fascists taking over or the "nonviolent protesters" actually used plenty of violence.
