I started writing a book on lions.

It turned out to be quite tricky and, frankly, damn dangerous, so I went back to regular paper.

The Hawaiian monk seal is one of two mammals endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. There are only ~1600 in the wild (i.e., fewer than pandas). Now they’re getting vaccinated against bird flu (H5N1). Get ready for autistic monk seals.

This book has been so soothing. I have probably learned more about the foreign policies that shape the world just in the first three chapters than I have in at least the last 15 years of news media. 🙃 It's helped clarify a lot of the absolutely batshit nonsense of the current timeline. COMFORT READ

Mark Kelly for President? Okay. Pete Buttigieg for Secretary of State. I could be on board with that.

When I was a little girl I had an imaginary friend. She was a young Klingon warrior. And it was okay for her to get mad about how I was treated, even when it wasn't okay for me, because Klingons are allowed to be mad at dishonorable treatment.

Thinking about her today, and how she was just me.

Am I the only one who thinks the Epstein files, while they might mean quite a lot to the victims, will mean nothing to Trump if he’s identified as a perpetrator? He’s already got felonies in the double-digits, and has lost suits related to sex crimes. Why would we all think this is what he fears?

You can never be sorry enough for dropping the “h” at the end of Pittsburgh.

That h really classes up the name, you know, makes it sound like the home of a Scottish Laird n’at.

Cheers to Raleig for owning this treachery.

From fading fields to a sweet revival 🍯🌱

In rural Nepal, jaggery-making—a 200-year-old tradition—was on the brink of disappearing. Low prices and outdated methods left smallholder farmers, especially women and youth, with little hope.
