On the eve of the world’s stupidest trade war 🧵:

'Twas the night before tariffs, and all through the land,
Businesses were stirring, with plans in hand.

The contracts were hung by the boardrooms with dread,
In hopes that trade wars wouldn’t leave them all dead. 1/

Watching Prime Target on AppleTV+ and it’s kind of funny seeing Stephen Rea after watching Say Nothing earlier this year. That show happened to portray Rea’s ex-wife who was a major IRA figure in IRL.

Just weird pop culture weaving.

So something has been bugging me since I listened to @nytimes The Daily on Fri morning.

Their panel framed Macron and Starmer coming to the White House “as bending the knee”… it rubbed me the wrong way when I heard it, but especially in light of what happened later that day in the OO. 1/

Even if the world manages to survive the next 4 yrs of this shit I don’t think the rest of the world will easily forgive 🇺🇸s for his 2nd win. It made one of the worst most arrogant people on the planet feel like he’s invincible. He thinks he is a god king bc things have very improbably gone his way

Husband just called and said I should turn on the news and watch Trump and Vance do a back and forth shouting match with Zelensky in the goddam Oval Office! Turned it on and it was so awkward I turned it right off and demanded he just give me Cole’s notes. 1/

I just really need to say that I genuinely love how the folks behind Severance really trust their audience. They don’t dumb anything down. They reward patience, smarts, and the appreciation of art. 1/

It’s an absolute shame that Nbc relegated the @saturdaynightlive.bsky.social 50: Homecoming Concert on Peacock instead of broadcasting it live.

I jumped through hoops to find it and play it today and I’ve had a smile plastered on my face for the entire 3hr run time. 1/

Curse the Instacart buyer who left a packet of Nerd Gummy Clusters in our shopping bag! They are delicious, the perfect candy and completely addictive!! I was woefully ignorant of this delectable confection and now am afraid that I will need it regularly.

Listening to Jason Kenney on @cbcradiocanada ‘s West of Center pod and I want to make a small prediction:

If PP loses the next election, Jason Kenney runs for CPC leader and probably wins it.

The fact I have to bring this out again… Many 🇺🇸s right now range from covetous to lazy/apathetic wanting someone else to clean up their mess. You didn’t heed the threats to your own democracy. You let decades of selfish individualism override any collective sense of community 1/
I am going to say this with my whole freaking chest… Any Americans eyeing up Canada can fuck right off. Keep your non-functioning shit show to yourself!

We are not perfect, we have our problems, but they pale in comparison to yours. Keep away from our:

Just saw this, it was great, but not sure why I’ve not heard more discourse around this in terms of the moment the US is having now.

I hope that its Best Pic nod causes more Americans to seek this out bc it functions as a warning. It provides a preview of what possibly could be in there future. 1/

Oh how i enjoy listening to @idislikestephen.bsky.social on @npr.org‘s Pop Culture Happy Hour. But was just doing a podcast catch up and just heard him on @vox.com’s Today Explained pod and my man got everything wrong about the Super Bowl yesterday 🫣 😂

if the president can say “i don’t like the department of energy,” and within a week it’s closed, then the constitution means nothing, and the president’s entire claim to power is the loyalty of the military. either he is constrained by the constitution or he’s a dictator, there isn’t a middle ground

Decided to re-watch Severance S1 bc after watching the 1st ep of S2 realized I didn’t remember much from S1…

Anyway, watching the pilot put me back in the place where even just 15 min into it was “what the fuck is happening here?!”

I wonder if Alan Rickman could’ve foreseen him becoming the pan-genre villain of modern Christmases? Between Die Hard and Love Actually millions hate watch him every year. Talk about cultural impact
