I have a friend who is a hoarder who adjusted by trading shit instead of letting it collect dust. You don't need a special talent, transportation, excess of goods, etc. to contribute to a barter economy.
Imho, you have to abandon american individualism and accept you don't have to be special.

Using the fact someone struggled with a substance use disorder at some point in their life to discredit them is an ad hominem fallacy and a red flag for ableism. Getting caught up in compulsive, ritualistic self-soothing as a result of trauma is no reason to put someone down.
