Great news. This is what an ICE agent looks like in a mugshot. Meet Gerardo Rodriguez, 45, of Temecula, courtesy of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. Arrested for "illegally detaining a minor at gunpoint while off duty last week." 🧵

Everything we’ve seen from him these past six months suggests the only lesson he took from COVID was that he didn’t have enough control over public information. Now he thinks he’s rectified that problem and that he can b.s. his way through everything. A big bet. www.offmessage.net/p/trump-is-s...

It could very well turn out to be the first time in history that a political leader has had a direct negative impact on the global economy. What Donald is doing is unreal. When we look back at it, we'll realize how crazy.
"The president usually has limited control over the economy, with downturns being caused by events beyond their control. In this case, however, Trump’s policies are directly responsible for job losses, rising prices, wavering confidence, and a speedrun toward what looks like stagflation."

He’s the man behind Project 2025—a 900-page roadmap for dismantling democracy and rebuilding it in the image of the far-right. Six months in, Trump is executing this plan step-for-step.

say it again:

4 million people work in higher ed, the largest employer in 10 states, second largest employer in 10 more, and in 60 of the 100 biggest cities

demolishing higher education is economic sabotage
It's important to note here that we're not just talking about faculty & university staff. 100s of U.S. colleges are in towns or small cities where they form the major industry & lifeblood of the community. Loss of students -> loss of rent $, restaurant $, bars, bookstores, gaming stores...
The US could see a 30-40% decline in new international student enrollment, resulting in nearly $7 billion in lost revenue and more than 60,000 fewer American jobs. https://www.nafsa.org/fall-2025-international-student-enrollment-outlook-and-economic-impact

This is an important point

Much in DC in its formative years as our capital was deliberately “plain”

Because our government was supposedly not going to reflect the excess & exclusion of Old World royalty

The White House is stately & straightforward as a statement of principle

You know.
No kings.
We think of the White House as a big mansion, but the point is it's not a palace. It's a house. It's modest, one of the smallest residences for a head of state. The east and west wings are deliberately minimal and unobtrusive. It's not Versailles or Buckingham. It symbolizes civic republicanism.

Update: I offered the amendment. Not to refuse acceptance of the Qatari jet; just to prohibit Trump from taking it with him when he leaves office - after the taxpayers spend $1 billion to retrofit it.

Failed 14-15. Every single Republican voted to allow Trump to take the jet.
The fight against corruption has to be ceaseless.

Today in the Appropriations Committee, I will offer an amendment to prohibit the Qatari jet that was gifted to Trump (which is going to cost taxpayers $1 billion) from being transferred to him personally.

Stay tuned.
