No more big city mayors who hate big cities.
After failing to stop a major state housing bill from becoming law, Los Angeles leaders are turning to plan B: Delaying Senate Bill 79's implementation and pushing for unspecified legislative changes next year. My dispatch for @politico.com Pro subscribers subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2025...

we need a ✨️wealth tax✨️
Kind of wild that while food assistance was withheld from millions of families, one Trump-supporting billionaire (Ellison) saw his net worth grow more this year than the entire SNAP budget. And the YTD gains of the other four richest men would’ve fully covered salaries for all 2M federal employees.

turns out all the dems in the senate were born in the 1940s and think it's 1978 still
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

very funny that saying wyoming deserves exactly 80x less influence in american politics than california is understood to be wildly antithetical to the founding principles of the country
the OTHER thing is that no filibuster defender has yet to articulate why it is that people who happen to live in low density states not only deserve additional representation but also deserve to exercise a veto *on top of that*

standing before the supreme court and arguing with a straight face that it's a hardship for the government not to starve it's citizens
One of the key things the Supreme Court is supposed to do on an emergency motion is to balance the hardships to each sides.

Here it is not even close--people starving v. the government not tapping a reserve they are supposed to tap anyway in the event of an emergency
Just going to be an incredible decision if SCOTUS says they needed to make an emergency intervention because of the risk that poor people might get food they are legally entitled to

i think big city mayors should get a seat in the senate too
I eyeballed it. Okay, turns out it's nearly *half* of Senators got fewer votes than Mamdani.

ADAMS: Now “I don't have to deal with you guys, man. I can fly private now, I can go on a cruise, I can hang out in St. Bart.”

i do think the worst part of car dependency is that it makes everyone utterly incurious to anything between location a and b. it's all just an undifferentiated obstacle course
“Unlike the car, the e-cargo bike afforded a unique sensitivity to the natural world and local environment [that] enabled parents to train their children in local geography and responsible mobility.”

Schumer: "Look, I voted, and I look forward to working with the next mayor to help NYC."

hugely underrated climate (and anti-trump!) action in blue states/cities: let more people live there
And yes, the best thing New York can do for the climate is to create more New Yorkers.

That's about more housing, lower rents, childcare.

So yes, vote @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, and yes on Props 2-5 for more housing!
