this reminds me of how a bar near me, which is otherwise perfect, had a burger on its menu for a long time called the “ladies’ burger” because it had one patty rather than two, and it made me want to scream every time I saw it

my possibly unpopular opinion is that this is what we get for elevating personal essays to “serious” writing, boring solipsism masked as ~ literature ~
