Hello, beautiful.

Let’s build these babies everywhere!

BTW, they’re legal in Fresno, CA. Who wants to partner with me to build some? LFG!
Would you believe me if I told you these row houses were built in 2023?

We never forgot how to build missing-middle housing simply and beautifully. We just made it illegal to do so pretty much everywhere.

Looking forward to the eventual return of the OG.

Sorry if you’re trying to work and this is distracting, but the Helm Building’s facade was looking particularly radiant today.

I'm sure people in other cities see me walking around taking pictures like crazy and confidently identify me as a tourist, not knowing that I do exactly the same thing in my own town. For example, these random pictures that I took yesterday on my way to the bank... #touristinyourowntown

Imagine thinking there's a nefarious plot to get you not to own a car instead of the opposite.

America has a thing called Trunk or Treat where people dress up, drive to a parking lot, and pretend it's ok we don't have walkable communities anymore.

What’s wrong with speed humps?

Nothing really. Speed humps are…fine.

But they’re not the most effective intervention, can’t be installed on bus routes, and don’t reclaim any space from vehicles.

New protected bike lane just dropped.

We had a great time at the Fulton Street Party yesterday. There was a ton of great food and live music, and it is always nice to run into all of my Downtown friends (and to make new ones!).

We had a great workshop for the Tower District Specific Plan yesterday. Huge attendance , positive vibes, and a lot of great ideas. Tower folks love their neighborhood and are willing to put in the work to enhance it. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Norway has one of the lowest crash death rates in the world, with fatalities dropping ~50% in the last decade.

I asked a senior Norwegian transportation official what role car technology has played enhancing safety.

Her answer: "None. We focus on road design and enforcement."

Something I love about Oslo: This city is incredibly quiet.

Lots of people are walking/biking/scooting. And most vehicles are electric, while speed limits are typically 30 km/hr (19 mph), so engine/tire noise is negligible.

A reminder that cities aren't loud; *cars* are loud.

Whenever you see a traffic jam, the street is NOT crowded with people. It is crowded with empty voids encased in metal boxes. There is usually plenty of room for all of the people.
Not the one I was thinking of but same effect!
Just seeing that is mind boggling.

Had a great time in Downtown Fresno for Art Hop last Thursday. The summer heat backed off a bit and people were out in force.

I’m looking forward to this sweet Art Deco canopy sign getting restored. It was hidden away under plywood for nearly my entire life. This was the first time I have ever seen it uncovered. 🤩

Construction of the BQE required the displacement of tens of thousands of people. Designed by Robert Moses, the highway cut a 15-mile gash through some of the most densely populated neighborhoods on the planet. More info: https://www.segregationbydesign.com/brooklyn/brooklynqueens-expressway
