I started working retail in the 80s and this kind of thing is so ingrained in me that I still have to remind myself not to look at people and smile when I'm shopping. Otherwise I spend half an hour helping random strangers find things! I don't know when it stopped being standard.

As someone who works in a profession where people give me their housekey or passcode number, this kind of shit is terrifying. We all go the wrong house sometimes. Everyone I know has done it at least once. Heck, I know guys who've taken furniture from the wrong house by mistake!

One of the weirdest things (for me) about deliberately learning social skills has been discovering how very many "social" people actually have poor social skills and cover it up by accusing other people of bullshit.

They're also weirdly averse to planning ahead - the number of times I've tried to explain "if you know this is going to happen, you can Plan For That and take steps to mitigate..." only to have people act like planning is what causes problems.
