Another reject star for this quilt! It's cute, but I think I want something bigger for the last one. I save the rejects and extras and whenever possible sneak them into other quilts. This quilt has several repurposed blocks.

I kind of like the way this quilt looks upside down! It's giving me ideas

It's harder than I expected to describe something that's upside down in a picture.

Borders are done! Time to start the applique. I haven't done bats before, so I'm nervous about this.

working on a couple of quilts at a time - I mean, I always have a bunch of projects going, but today I'm actually moving back and forth between these two
A large cutting counter where two partially-made miniature quilts are laid out. One is mostly dark blues in a star pattern with the beginnings of a border in reds and oranges laid out at the top. The other has a stylized fire in yellows and oranges at the bottom on a background of green that fades into blue rising up the quilt, with some stylize star shapes. The top is obviously unfinished.

Finished my quilt! Feels like I'm off to a decent start for doing more three dimensional pieces.

I think y'all really missed a big part of why USians think Henry VIII is medieval: pictures of him in tights.
A well known portrait of Kind Henry VIII of England where he's wearing tights, a skirt, massively puffy sleeves ornamented with ribbons, several necklaces, and several rings. It's definitely not the sort of fashion sense one associates with words like "Early Modern".

today's new embroidery thing: wired shapes. I just used some floral wire I had on hand, which is going to be much too heavy for making dainty little dragonfly wings, but it's fine for a big practice project like this

I'm working on maps for a local rural arts center - it's queer operated and focuses on queer and bipoc creators and I'm super proud of it. And! it's in middle Tennessee, an outgrowth of a decades old (and still growing) rural queer community.

Went walking in a little bit of queer owned heaven in middle tennessee today. We're still everywhere y'all. And we've been using the better times to build communities so that when times like these come, we have safe places to be.

There are leafless winter trees on the right, some scattered evergreens on the left and a hill up head, with a little blue sky above. The leaves look like they will make a satisfying crunch when you walk on them (and they absolutely do).

I'm flitting from project to project this week. A little bit of work on one of my reliquaries and then maybe some embroidery later. I want to Make All the Things!

This bedroom annoyed me so much.
A bedroom, the predominant color of which is "the better quality plywood" ornamented with the sorts of house-theme plaques, plates and tiles one would find at small town craft fairs. There's European quaint alongside pioneer cabins, covered bridges, and the occasional boat. I was surprised not to find a painted sawblade - someone fell down on the job, there. Instead we have a plywood headboard cutout of a medieval town rippling with "I Can Has Jigsaw?" energy. This is the only wood surface without added tat, but since staining plywood isn't actually a good idea, a nice painted sawblade would be an improvement, here. On the bed are a matched set of pillow shams and coverlet with a warm gold and blue Tudor house scene... probably bought at Hobby Lobby, on sale. Facing the bed is a coffee table (yes, in a bedroom, yes) that takes up basically all the floorspace. Under a sheet of glass is a painting of some castle or other. There is no seating for the table, it's just there. The seating is on an adjacent wall. It's another plywood tat-up... and look, I'm in the decor biz, I Know cabinets are actually mostly plywood, and most furniture these days, too, but we try to hide that fact to make things look classy. There's no attempt at class here, and I'd respect that if it were done better. The seating unit is topped by a craft fair example of woodburning. There's a word in a fancy Ye Olde World font that I can't read. Maybe German? But the thing I can't help noticing is that the cushion on this seat Doesn't Fit the Unit. It's probably a standard day bed mattress, custom covered in a green and white print with the greenest of green sides. The contrast to the plywood makes it obvious that they've had to shove two bolsters in on one side to fill in the gap. This is what happens when you cheap out and don't hire a decorator, people! Obviously these folks could afford one, but instead they cut corners in all the wrong places, and it shows.

I took on one of the less overwhelming rooms in the house.
The red bedroom is clearly either for unwanted guests or where hubs goes when he's in the doghouse. It's tiny - all the bedrooms are cramped, but this is dorm room size. To offset this, the walls to the left of the bed are plain with only a modest number of framed art pieces on the wall, though the numbers increase as you move away from the bed, achieving max clutter at the far wall. The right side of the room is dominated by dark wood. Closest to the camera is a built-in cabinet with heavily carved doors that look like they were salvaged from an older piece. The wood is badly damaged in places, you can see where hardware was removed. I think the "carving" in the panels are actually wood decals that were added later. Above these doors in completely different wood is... another pair of doors, also carved or maybe ornamented with decals in a totally different style. It looks like someone tried really hard, bless their heart. Beyond this cabinet is a rather plain wood desk with a plain brown adjustable desk chair which looks new. Above the desk there appear to be shelves stuffed with something or other, it's hard to see. Above the shelves is a large, flat screen tv, angled to be seen from the bed. Maybe it's the late night workroom, for when you don't want to wake up your honey. Past the end of the bed is a custom built seating thing. It looks like an amalgam of a pew and set of cheap shelves. There's a red seat cushion that is probably custom made, but then there's a bunch of ratty pillows and worn out plush toys keeping anyone from sitting down. The corpse of the previous desk chair is an added obstacle, there. But the real feature is the bed, closest to the camera. It has a plain red mass-market bedspread that's so worn there are rips in it. Someone spends a lot of time in this bed, but at a guess, not happy time. The coffered ceiling has flower and cherub decals and a red crystal chandelier, for your sins.

Breezy's new improved middle aged existence includes lots of naps and snuggling, which is a delightful change for her. She's still the most anxious of our cats, but now actually does know how to chill out.
