For @truthdig.com, I checked out Nuremberg and its predecessor Judgment at Nuremberg and came away with the extremely unsettling notion that the impact of Holocaust footage isn’t what it was and should be. Hope I’m totally wrong.

Happy pub day to @sarahweinman.com! Sarah is unfailingly supportive of other authors, a deeply kind and generous person in an industry with far too few of them. She's also a stone-cold genius. Buy WITHOUT CONSENT!

There is a new book out by Nick Weber called “The Art of Tennis” about the intersection of the sport and high culture. Cavaggio, Shaw, Monty Python, Billy Wilder, etc.

A fascinating book & an even more fascinating guy who now just lives in Ireland and Paris. My idol.

Shit is bad. But…

I have been more of a “take what you can get” guy with Pelosi keeping the troops in line. This is bad for all the people it affects, of course, but also terrible politics.

So dumb. So gross. Fuck you, Chuck.
the Dems keep operating like this cynical shit has no effect. It’s why their core voters don’t fucking show up. When they say “we fight for you” nobody believes them, because they constantly pull shit like this and say “what else are you gonna vote for.” But then people STAY HOME.

This is not what they actually say. This is what they used to say, in the long ago before times when Shaheen learned to do politics. There is no kumbaya median voter anymore. The question you get knocking doors is not "why can't you all just work together?" it's "why didn't / will you fight harder?
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"

Here's a *big idea* I've been rattling around lately: I wonder if this week's election might prove to be a capper on a covid-era politics of online fear and disassociation. It feels like people are actually, finally, looking around and comparing reality to what they've been sold by an algorithm.

Also I am sitting here taking it all in because before the show we said goodbye to a great Fort Greene publican. It’s been a ride today, but all I can say about what @davidjroth.bsky.social and I have tried to do is make life a little better.

Dom did that.
