이게 대중문화에만 해당하는 얘기는 아니다. '피가로의 결혼'을 모르는 사람이 '쇼생크 탈출'을 봤다면, 그 작품이 주는 재미 중 2할 정도는 모르고 지나간다는 거니까. 마찬가지로 트라이톤(증5도)의 의미를 안다면, 웨스트 사이드 스토리의 '마리아' 와 생상스의 '죽음의 무도'에 왜 그런 음이 쓰였는지도 이해할 수 있어서 재미가 더욱 깊어진다는 이야기

하지만 나같은 옛날 사람은 '창작자가 대부1이나 로드 투 퍼디션(의 원작인 '아들을 동반한 검객)도 안 보고 어찌 누아르를 논하겠는가' 라며 꼰꼰력을 발산하는 편이 익숙한 것이다. 대중문화 창작자는 어쨌건 영화와 소설의 대표적 걸작은 한번씩 접하는 편이 좋다고 생각해. 요짐보, 시티 라이트, 사이코를 모르고 골든 카무이를 봐도 재미는 있겠지. 하지만 알고 보면 더 재미있을 텐데
