#fbpe. 30 years running a small UK biz. Escaped to Europe recently. Rejoin SM, CU and EU for a healthy future for our children and grandchildren. Truth matters. If you are unnecessarily rude about #FBPE I will just block.

Who knows it might be YOUR children or grandchildren who one day find themselves at the mercy of the generosity or otherwise of another country to give them help. Our guiding principle should be to treat others as we would want our own to be treated.

Some of the people in this article have shared their recollections with me before - but on condition of anonymity. Coming forward now is an act of patriotism. Farage’s claim that it never happened is the opposite.

This project is a disaster. If these politicians can’t work together within their own grouping then how can they do what will be required to see off the far right which is to work with other progressive parties. Now more than ever progressives need to cooperate!

Yes. As so often it's an exercise in choosing your flavour of ghastliness. Only one thing would make things better, imo. Someone kills FPTP and moves the country to PR. Then everyone can choose the politics that express them, rather than be shoehorned into broad - crumbling - churches.

Sultana might be a better fit with Polanski's new-vibe Greens than this group, tbh. The YP project is so dead now it has little chance of meaningful impact other than splitting the left vote.

I also sense we might see the first Labour-to-Greens MP defection over these disgusting asylum proposals.
What on earth is going on here? It looks like he fell out with Sultana and then fell out with Corbyn a few hours later?

Just a week after COP30 ends, it looks almost certain that Brazil's agribusiness dominated Congress will strip almost all oversight of damaging projects.

Per the article, he has been in the US since 1952, when he arrived legally with his family. He was five. He seems to have never gotten his citizenship papers in order, but attended his immigration meetings regularly.

He was taken into custody last month and taken to Alligator Alcatraz.

Everything about the current 'debate' around this is dismal, not just morally but because it is so stupid. For example:

It conflates asylum-seeking and illegal immigration (and sometimes with migration generally)

It shows no understanding of why there is AS

And ofc, like almost everything Labour do at the moment, it's politically stupid: immediately & predictably denounced as 'not going far enough' by Tories and Reform, highly unlikely to gain Labour votes from those parties, and highly likely to lose them votes to other parties. 3/3

It bemoans lack of integration whilst making integration far less likely.

It wants ASs to contribute, whilst forbidding most of them from doing so

It asserts that 'the rules' are too lenient whilst claiming that the problem is that people aren't 'playing by the rules'. 2/3

THIS is what true leaders sound like.

They don't brag about how great they are or speak nonsense about sharks, batteries, & magnets. They work for ALL the people & the ENTIRE country, focusing on prosperity.

Mostly, they don't attack, maim & kill their own citizens.

This is flat out bollocks by the Home Secretary. Nobody is seeking asylum in UK for the joy of being crammed into an overcrowded and squalid hotel and forced to eat inedible food, which is the case for many hotels. The UK is not "generous" and it's not a prime destination for people seeking asylum.

Imagine you find a place to make a new life for yourself after a traumatic event. You form a family, find work, make friends, learn a new way to live. Then 20 years later a government minister decides you haven’t ‘tried hard enough’ so sends you back to the place of your trauma. 1/3

Deep breath, once more for those at the back, seeking asylum is not illegal. No matter route used, which considering Labour has closed pretty much all the last remaining alternatives means irregular ones.
Anti-immigration sentiments are stoked by politicians like Mahmood, not people seeking safety.
