This blog seeks to highlight what we think of as “sicko lesbian” literature, a category that’s not defined by genres or tropes but by the catharsis of strong passion, strong deeds, and lack of restraint. This doesn’t mean it’s all blood, guts, and gore (though sometimes it can be that), rather that we’re looking to talk about books that prioritize emotional intensity and ruthlessness. The protagonists tend to be a little agnostic to conventional morality, characters that might have well been antagonists in another work. The endings of these books run the gamut: neutral, ambiguous, fatally tragic, or ardently triumphant. “Sicko” isn’t about good representation; instead, it’s the idea that lesbians—like everyone else—deserve art that doesn’t function solely as representative but explores a large range of concepts, stories, and fictional behaviors. We reject the idea that if a fictional lesbian is a little too obsessive, she must be “bad representation” because she fits the stereotype of the “psycho lesbian”; art is contextual and very case-by-case. A homophobic stereotype is easy enough to distinguish from a queer author looking to explore the idea of, say, a queer woman serial killer. You know it when you see it. Stories about straight female serial killers are plenty. Prescribing lists of do’s and don’ts in good representation or building strict paint-by-the-numbers traits is neither possible nor desirable in pursuit of good art.

I love flowers, always have, and the ones I most associate with these two are black dahlias. Jinn and Kili are a dragon who hoards the memories of their mortal loved ones through immortal life, so I feel like mourning and grief fits them.

it's a 'fake it till you make it' thing, to an extent. if you call yourself a writer, if you hold yourself to that standard, if you write - then it'll start to fit like a glove. whereas if you use some kind of diminuitive, self-effacing term, it'll start to hold you back and mess with your head
