It's a safety risk to have a passenger sitting there who might not comply with the flight attendant's instructions during an emergency.
The better question is "why are airlines allowed to charge $155 for a seat with extra responsibilities like that?"

My gifted program involved *more* reading plus logic puzzles. It was something to do while the other students got repeats of lectures we'd already had.

That sounds awful.. oh it's just the feed. That's probably not too bad. My initial thought was that I might get swapped with a much larger account and suddenly have to deal with a whole bunch of notifications that I'm not used to

I have a vision impairment that isn't severe enough for me to use a screen reader. With the right font and enough contrast between the text and the background I can still read. If the font/contrast don't work for me, but the image has alt text, the alt comes up in dark mode so I can read it.
