🎓 With news that a tax on tuition fees from international students is set to be included in Wednesday's Budget, it's worth revisiting our study from last year which looked at public attitudes towards these students 🧵 ⬇️

Good morning, while everyone is waiting for the budget to be announced it’s a good time to say that immigration is a source of prosperity for the UK and painting Britain as a hostile state is sabotaging the country. Thanks!

Okay, fairly obvious, but, despite delusions of some, the UK is not a "main destination" for migration. It's actually a competitive market, jobs, students etc. Between Mahmood's, effectively xenophobic policies, and Reeve's budget targeting international students, the economy as a whole gets screwed

Tbqh I'm more concerned about his current racist behaviour over something he did at 16

Lauren Socha for Pauline Mole pls (or Michael for George but not sure he's hapless enough)
Hoping this might be the time they finally do it with East Midlands accents
Lots to enjoy with the new Adrian Mole adaptation announcement, which is coming from the BBC"

- David Nicholls is adapting it.
- Caitlin and Caroline Moran, Jack Rooke, Dillon Mapletoft and Oliver Taylor will also be writing for it.
- It will consist of ten 30 minute episodes.

Almost everyone who wanted that voted Reform so not sure where this alleged mandate comes from. Just stop being so shit and chuck some funding into education, health and social care, lads 😭
Asked if Keir Starmer believes British people want to "see refugee children pulled out of school and deported after 10 years in this country”, his spokesman says that “what the British public wants and what this government was elected on a mandate to deliver was to secure our borders"

Every migrant who arrives in Britain to study at a University brings in more foreign currency than we get by exporting a luxury car. Yet we are driving them away in order to appease the far right.
Labour concocts more ugly measures to punish asylum seekers and the right immediately demands worse… howling to leave the ECHR.
This scapegoating of migrants must stop. It is failure - morally and practically.
“Either we all have human rights or none of us do.”

My train home has now also been cancelled so thanks owed to Claudia for making train fares affordable via delay repay, I guess.
Attempting to get to Bristol which is somewhat challenging as Swindon appears to be underwater (an improvement) but I'm now *so* delayed it's basically a free train so, yay?

Genuinely love our quiz master but was willing to go to fisticuffs (which I would have lost, he's Millwall) over the fact there definitely weren't five Bronte sisters

This was not something I was ever expecting to see in an OfS strategy but I'm delighted to finally see some acknowledgement from The Powers That Be that universities are quite good, actually 🥺
