Something a bit warmer for this #FernFriday. Sticheropsis truncata, an upland fern from Indonesia. The fronds appear to fork, but actually extend continuously, with a hidden bud in the fork allowing the plant to spread out seeking light in forest gaps. #BritshFernSociety #BPS #RBGE

And here I was thinking growing ferns from spores would be tricky! Having sown them in June, I am swimming in Brittle Bladder-ferns. Not entirely sure what I will do with them all, the significant other already thinks we have way too many 😬 #ferns

What if i told you theres an easy trick to making sure your tubers dont rot!

Carefully lift the tuber
Cut the tops short, you dont even need to clean the tuber.
lay them out with good air circulation In a cool, dry, frost free area & dry off 𝙐𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙬𝙣!

Dear friends. I’ve done something different launching Legenda by targeting independent bookshops. I didn’t drive all sales to Amazon. So I’m relying on those of you that are reading it to share reviews & spread the word. I want this book to be supported by readers, not algorithms.

A great morning at Edge Hill University yesterday; students receive their Plant Heritage National Collection status for their collection of native and naturalised ferns. (Nice to see some of my plants on display too). Nice to see a young thriving plant horticulture group. #BritishFernSociety

With the UK losing protected natural space equivalent to 1,680 football pitches in the past 5 years, it's clear that we need nature to be front & centre of planning reforms🏡

This means doubling down on safeguards, with more places designated for nature recovery🏞️
